Where there's smoke: Kamala Harris slammed for Thanksgiving pic after Internet notices something very wrong
WASHINGTON, DC: Kamala Harris's Thanksgiving picture on X (formerly Twitter) gained the Internet's attention as they were quick to spot a gas stove that the Biden administration considered banning over health concerns.
The vice president posted a photo of her with her husband, Doug Emhoff, in their kitchen with the caption, "From our family to yours, happy Thanksgiving."
Kamala Harris keeps using a gas stove despite the Biden administration's 'energy efficiency standards'
Internet finding the vice president using a gas stove contradicted the administration's take on the cooking appliance's adverse impact on health and the environment.
In October 2022, Richard Trumka Jr of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a memo stating sufficient evidence for the CPSC to initiate the rulemaking process to prohibit new gas stoves as they apparently "emit toxic gasses that cause illness."
"The need for gas stove regulation has reached a boiling point," said Trumka Jr, adding, "CPSC has the responsibility to ban consumer products that emit hazardous substances, particularly, when those emissions harm children, under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act."
While speaking to Bloomberg in January, he stood firm on his take and asserted, "Any option is on the table. Products that can't be made safe can be banned," he stated. However, he later changed his remarks with the tweet, "CPSC isn't coming for anyone's gas stoves."
The Republican lawmakers vehemently opposed the suggestion, and later, the White House confirmed that President Joe Biden does not support banning gas stoves.
Though the administration refrained from banning gas cooking products, the Department of Energy proposed an "energy efficiency standard for gas and electric cooktops." "If implemented, the standards would not go into effect until 2027 and help US consumers save up to $1.7 billion," stated DOE.
Internet slams Kamala Harris for using a gas stove
Soon after Vice President Kamala Harris posted her Thanksgiving picture, netizens were quick to point out that she continued to use gas stoves despite the administration's claim of their "toxicity."
One said, "Nice gas stove, coming from the people who want to ban gas stove," while another added, "Rules for thee but not for me."
"You gotta love the hypocrisy here of having a gas stove while trying to tell people not to have them," stated a person.
Someone else noted, "Gas stoves should be banned you say, while using gas stove on Thanksgiving today," as one more added, "This are the people telling us that we shouldn't have gas stoves, i guess their gas stoves are completly fine."
"Nice gas stove. Instant meme material. That'll cost you an election," mocked one more, with a person asking, "I thought you all wanted to ban gas stoves? When will you be getting rid of yours?"
"Hmmm someone has a gas stove. How ironic," expressed a person.
