Some love stories refuse to stay quietly on the bookshelf, no matter how old the paper gets. ‘Wuthering Heights’ has been reborn for a new generation, this time with Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi stepping into the center of Emily Brontë’s famously volatile world. The 2026 film adaptation comes from writer-director Emerald Fennell. Robbie takes on the role of Catharine Earnshaw, a character who has fascinated readers for more than a century. Meanwhile, Elordi plays Heathcliff, the brooding outsider whose love turns dark, consuming, and impossible to forget. Before anyone even saw a frame of footage, the film found itself in the middle of online criticism.

Casting Robbie and Elordi sparked plenty of loud opinions, with purists questioning whether the pair fit the image they carried of Brontë’s characters. Warner Bros., however, did not retreat. Instead, the studio opted for a sultry promotional push, framing the movie as a passionate romance rather than a museum-piece literary adaptation. The strategy worked. As early reactions roll in, attention has shifted from controversy to logistics. Namely, when and where people can actually watch it. Warner Bros. positioned “Wuthering Heights” (yes, complete with quotation marks in its official styling) for a theatrical debut timed around Valentine’s Day.

The movie officially hits theaters on February 13, with early preview screenings beginning the night before on February 12. It’s following the standard Thursday rollout used for major releases. The runtime clocks in at two hours and sixteen minutes, giving the story plenty of space to breathe, simmer, and spiral. The rating is R, due to sexual material, moments of violence, and strong language, making it clear that this is not a softened version meant for casual family viewing, as per "Wuthering Heights" official website. For viewers already planning, the inevitable streaming question looms.

Warner Bros typically follows a two-step process for digital releases, and ‘Wuthering Heights’ is expected to follow that familiar path. First comes premium video-on-demand, allowing viewers to rent or purchase the film digitally, followed later by its arrival on HBO Max. While official dates have not been announced, past studio patterns offer a rough estimate. Based on recent Warner Bros releases, the film’s digital debut is projected for mid-March. Last year, many WB titles landed on PVOD roughly a month after their theatrical opening, averaging around 32 days.

If ‘Wuthering Heights’ follows a longer exclusive window, similar to select releases that waited closer to seven weeks, the digital option could slide into early April instead. Streaming on HBO Max will require more patience. If the studio sticks to its most common timeline, the film could arrive on the platform around May 1, approximately 11 weeks after its theatrical debut. That window has been used for the majority of Warner Bros. movies in recent years and would allow the film to resurface just as summer viewing habits start to kick in. Until then, theaters remain the primary destination. Anyone unwilling to wait will need to grab a ticket, while those content to watch from home should prepare for at least a month-long pause.
