Spoilers for ‘Walker’ Episode 4

After Cordell Walker (Jared Padalecki) has a run-in with an old friend and now-criminal, episode 4 of the reboot of the long-running series ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’, saw more focus on the eponymous lead’s partner. In the episode titled ‘Don't Fence Me In’, Micki Ramirez (Lindsey Morgan), one of the first women in Texas Rangers’ history, feels uncomfortable with the spotlight Captain James (Coby Bell) puts on her during a current investigation.

Micki, as we have seen in the show so far, is level-headed, cynical, and takes great pride in her duty. It’s obvious that attention makes her feel uncomfortable, certainly more so when it comes to her when she already has a rather famous and volatile man as her partner.

The episode also sees Walker learn there was trouble while he was away. The very first episode saw Walker return home to Austin, Texas, after being undercover for nearly a year. What he did during that time has been so far left very ambiguous. The episode also sees Walker’s son August (Kale Culley) stumble upon some secrets from his father's time undercover.

What comes next?

As per IMDb, episode 5 of ‘Walker’ is titled ‘Duke’. As per the episode’s synopsis, Walker's past will come back to haunt him. When his past unexpectedly collides with his present life, Walker is once again forced to resume his undercover identity to keep his family safe. This will obviously become a problem. The fact that Walker was away for so long had an impact on his kids -- August and Stella (Violet Brinson). Neither wants their father to be away from their lives anymore. But if it’s a matter of his family’s safety, what else can he do?

Micki too gets caught up in Walker’s old case while August threatens to blow his father’s cover. The episode will also see Trey (Jeff Pierre) start his new job. Trey was introduced in the first episode. He is Micki’s boyfriend -- sort of. He is a former army medic. As much as Walker is the main character, the lives of Micki and others in his periphery always make for a more fun watch.

As per a press release by The CW, ‘Walker’, which scored the network’s largest audience for a new series premiere (2.43million), was renewed earlier this month for another season. Part of a package of 12 current scripted series, ‘Walker’ was renewed for the 2021-2022 season. Additionally, The CW has ordered five episodes for this season of ‘Walker’, bringing its total episode count for 2020-2021 to 18.

“Though we’re just a few weeks into the new season, we wanted to get a strategic head start on next season with these early renewals, which allows our production teams to start laying out story arcs and hiring staff, and at the same time, continues to provide us with a strong, stable schedule to build on for next season,” said Mark Pedowitz, the chairman and CEO of The CW network.
