Remember Valerie Cherish? The former sitcom star who couldn't find a fair footing in the television industry to make her comeback? Just when the audience was at its height of wondering about her whereabouts, HBO announced earlier this year, on June 27, that the Lisa Kudrow-starrer comedy show 'The Comeback' had been renewed for a third and final season. Now, an update on the upcoming season from The Hollywood Reporter revealed that famed British actor and 'Ripley' star Andrew Scott has been cast to appear on the third season of 'The Comeback'.

HBO Max CEO Casey Bloys announced from the podium of yesterday's 2026 Content Showcase in London that the third season of the comedy show will arrive sometime in March 2026. The final instalment has once again been created by Michael Patrick King in association with Kudrow herself. Not much is known about the plot, except for the slug line reported by TVInsider: "(Valerie) has found her way back to the current television landscape. Neither of us are surprised she did." King dropped further hints about what to expect from the final season. As per Variety, Valerie has been cast in the first-ever sitcom written exclusively by AI in the third season, and must navigate the resulting pitfalls to the best of her ability.

King went on to explain, "The joke that's already played out is that AI is bad, I mean, that was two awards shows ago—everybody said, 'My speech was written by ChatGPT'. So we had to go deeper and figure out what would be the issue if AI was actually learning fast, and that people were trying to stay ahead of it. So yeah, I mean we worried about what's going to happen to everybody. It feels like a real moment."

When working with a contemporary subject that's consistently on the move, such as Artificial Intelligence, it's imperative to stay one step ahead of the recent developments in the field. And owing to this reason, Bloys remembered advising King and Kudrow to speed up their script development during the initial pitching sessions. King recollected, "When we come on in March, we think we might still be a little bit ahead of the curve, but we don't think anyone will have owned it yet."

Scott is no stranger to television, having won countless hearts with his outstanding portrayal of the hot priest on Prime Video's 'Fleabag'. He is also known for bringing to life a sophisticated version of the traditional Sherlock Holmes villain Professor Moriarty in the BBC One show. Scott was most recently seen on the Netflix psychological drama 'Ripley'. The rest of the confirmed cast members for 'The Comeback' Season 3 include Matt Cook, Tim Bagley, Ella Stiller, Jack O'Brien, Barry Shabaka Henley, John Early, Julian Stern, Abbi Jacobson, Brittany O'Grady, and Zane Phillips.
