'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe' gets release window as 'Big Bang Theory' spin-off cast shares update
Fans may soon see some familiar faces from the world of 'The Big Bang Theory' on their screens. The show's newest spin-off, titled 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe', got an exciting update at CCXP Mexico City, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The lead actors of the series, Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie, arrived at the event to discuss their highly anticipated project and announced that the show will release on HBO Max sometime in July.
The show's premise kicks off when comic book store owner Stuart Bloom, played by Sussman, breaks a device built by Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons), which causes a multiverse armageddon. Stuart now needs to save the universe, with his girlfriend Denise (Lapkus), his geologist friend Bert (Posehn), and quantum physicist Barry Kripke (Bowie) by his side. All four of them previously appeared in the flagship series.
The cast teased that the quest will make the quartet come face-to-face with different versions of fan-favorite characters. Sussman, who became a series regular in 'The Big Bang Theory', shared that things will not be hunky dory. “The fun is watching him fail every week,” he shared about his character's pursuits in the show. Sussman was also excited for viewers to see the brewing romance between Stuart and Denise. “When The Big Bang Theory ended, our relationship was just budding, and now you can see where it goes,” he added. The actor further said that Stuart will be forced to take on a leadership role in the series, but he is not "very good at it." The character is "way out of his comfort zone," in this new show, Sussman shared. The panel also revealed that the show will have an original theme song, which will be created by Emmy and Grammy Award winner Danny Elfman.
Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady will serve as creators, writers, and executive producers for the spin-off. The series is a collaboration between Warner Bros. Television and Chuck Lorre Productions. 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe' is not the first spin-off from the 'The Big Bang Theory' universe. 'Young Sheldon,' which follows the shenanigans of Sheldon in his younger years, was released in 2017 and signed off in 2024 after seven seasons on air. 'Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage' focuses on two characters from 'Young Sheldon' and is currently airing its second season on CBS. The spin-offs have had massive success, and the creators would hope that 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe' follows suit.
