Will Jim Parsons ever return for a 'Big Bang Theory' reboot? Emmy award winning actor reveals his feelings
'The Big Bang Theory' ran for twelve successive seasons between 2007 and 2019 and immortalized the character of the awkward genius Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons). Owing to the show's perennial popularity, two spinoffs, i.e., 'Young Sheldon' and 'Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage', have been consistently satiating audience demand. Nevertheless, an exclusive 'The Big Bang Theory' reboot would potentially work wonders to rekindle the interest of the dedicated fan base as well as bring in new batches of viewers. However, having said that, would Parsons ever agree to reprise his character of Sheldon Cooper for a potential 'The Big Bang Theory' reboot?
The answer is probably negative. Parsons, who recently performed in the 2026 Broadway musical 'Titanique', appeared on the April 17 episode of 'The View'. During the conversation, he was asked if he would ever return for a reboot, to which he replied, "I don’t believe I would do a reboot. I can’t say I miss him, partly because—especially 12 years on a TV show where they’re writing for this specific actor—there’s a lot of me in that. Not the genius part, but there’s a lot of me in that.” The fifty-three-year-old actor has received many accolades and won the Emmy Award on four occasions, yet feels unwilling to reprise a role that was, at one point, almost synonymous with his existence.
Parsons further explained, "There’s a lot about his qualities and just who he was that I still carry with me. The longer it goes on, I’m more and more surprised when people approach me about it. Not because I’m stupid, but because I’m like, oh, it makes sense, but I’m just not thinking about it.” He further added, "It’s always really sweet.” In contrast to Parsons's reluctance to star in a reboot, his former co-star Kaley Cuoco has wholeheartedly expressed her interest in appearing on a potential reboot of 'The Big Bang Theory', if it means being reunited with her other co-stars from the original show, such as Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg), Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik), Bernadette Rostenkowski (Melissa Rauch), and Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar). Speaking in an October 2024 interview with PEOPLE magazine, Cuoco noted, "I would absolutely reprise that role, I love that character, and I always will."
Cuoco further commented, "I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career. I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to Chuck Lorre. It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I've ever had." 'The Big Bang Theory' followed a group of friends who also happened to be talented scientists living together in California. The show is available to stream on Max.
