'Rosebush Pruning' eerie trailer sees Elle Fanning traumatized by boyfriend's mysteriously violent family
Elle Fanning plays the character of Martha in the upcoming satirical horror-thriller 'Rosebush Pruning.' The film, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) in February 2025, is slated for a wider theatrical release later this summer. Alongside Fanning, Jamie Bell plays her boyfriend Jack, who accompanies Martha on a trip to meet his strange family. Things soon take a turn for the macabre as Jack's family is far from what Martha expected.
The recently released trailer for 'Rosebush Pruning' on MUBI establishes Jack as the oldest son of a wealthy family. The trailer delves into Jack's family, revealing that they live off the fortune amassed by The Mother, played by Pamela Anderson, who is deceased by the time the film's events unfold. It is also suggested that Jack is different from his family in a yet-to-be-revealed manner. While Jack introduces Martha to the rest of his family, they are seen measuring her up with intimidating eyes. Riley Keough's Anna and Callum Turner's Ed are two vicious family members whose sole purpose seems to make Martha feel uneasy in their company.
Moving on, the trailer makes further allusions to wolfpack imagery and also introduces Lucas Gage and Tracy Letts in important roles. There's a particularly unsettling moment when Gage's character, Robert, makes fun of Jack by smearing blood on himself. Elsewhere, bodies in bags are seen getting dragged out of a car. The viewer must be advised that this is one such family where the unearthing of secrets can prove lethal, and that certain doors are best kept shut. All in all, it can be speculated that Jack might try his best to shield Martha from his family. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether he shall finally succeed in doing so. One might hope that more information in this direction becomes available soon.
'Rosebrush Pruning' currently has a 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, that is subject to change following the film's impending release to a wider audience. Apart from 'Rosebrush Pruning', Fanning is slated to appear in several other major works this year, the foremost among them being 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.' She will be seen as a young Effie Trinket in the prequel to the original films based on author Suzanne Collins' eponymous book series, and will herald Peeta and Katniss to the world of the Games. Furthermore, the 27-year-old is set to lead the upcoming Apple TV original series 'Margo's Got Money Troubles,' in which she plays a pregnant woman trying to make ends meet by becoming an OnlyFans sensation. The series belongs in the comedy-drama genre and extends Fanning's already established acting range to the fullest.
