Who was Teresa Sievers?
Teresa Sievers was a dedicated and respected physician known for her holistic approach to medicine. Born as Teresa Ann Grace Tottenham on November 19, 1968, in Derby, Connecticut, she was raised by her mother after her parents separated when she was just one month old. Teresa excelled academically, becoming the valedictorian of her high school class and graduating from Ross University School of Medicine in 1996.
She also completed pre-med studies at Fairfield University and her residency at the University of Florida. After her first marriage ended, she married Mark Sievers in 2003, and they had two daughters. In 2006, the Sievers family moved to Bonita Springs, Florida, where Teresa and Mark founded the Restorative Health and Healing Center, focusing on holistic and integrative medicine.
Teresa was well-regarded for her compassionate care and innovative medical practices, earning a loyal patient base and the respect of the medical community. Tragically, on June 28, 2015, Teresa was murdered in her home by Curtis Wayne Wright Jr and Jimmy Ray Rodgers, who were hired by her husband, Mark Sievers, to benefit from life insurance money and due to fears of losing custody of their children.
Why did Mark Sievers kill Teresa Sievers?
Mark Sievers stood to gain a substantial amount of money from Teresa's life insurance policies. These policies totaled approximately $4.433 million. This large sum of money provided a significant financial incentive for Mark to plan her murder.
Furthermore, Mark also feared losing custody of their two daughters. He was worried that Teresa might leave him and take the children with her. This fear intensified his desire to find a permanent solution to his problems, which led him to consider murder as a way to maintain control over his children and secure his financial future.
During a trip to Missouri for the wedding of his childhood friend Curtis Wayne Wright Jr, Mark confided in Wright about his marital troubles and fears. Wright suggested that killing Teresa would solve Mark's problems. Motivated by the potential financial gain and the fear of losing his children, Mark agreed to the plan.
Wright then enlisted the help of Jimmy Ray Rodgers. Together, Wright and Rodgers drove over 1,000 miles from Missouri to the Sievers' home in Bonita Springs, Florida. They disabled the home’s security system and waited for Teresa to return from a family trip. When she arrived home on June 28, 2015, they ambushed and brutally murdered her, striking her with a hammer seventeen times.
The investigation quickly connected Wright and Rodgers to the crime, leading to their arrests. Further evidence and testimonies, including those from Rodgers' girlfriend, revealed Mark's involvement in planning the murder. Mark Sievers was subsequently arrested, tried, and convicted for his role in the murder of Teresa Siever.
