NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The Connecticut investment banker who jumped to death from a Manhattan rooftop bar last week was facing criminal charges at the time of his death. Dale L Cheney, 46, who is believed to have committed suicide, died two days after he filed for divorce from his wife Lauren Cheney, Connecticut court records show.

On Wednesday, January 25, Dale L Cheney, a father of five children in their teens and early 20s, jumped from the rooftop of Bar 54 at the Hyatt Centric Times Square New York on West 45th Street and Seventh Avenue.

What criminal charges was Dale L Cheney facing?

Before Dale L Cheney filed for divorce with his wife Lauren Cheney on January 23, he was hit with two misdemeanor charges on January 16 after a domestic dispute at the couple’s luxurious home in New Canaan, the Wilton Bulletin reported. Following the incident, in which the investment banker was accused of fourth-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, Lauren Cheney obtained a restraining order against her husband, according to the outlet.

The 46-year-old was released on a $25,000 bond after a court appearance in Stamford and Seventh Avenue. Law enforcement was called twice to Cheney's former Upper East Side home in 2008 for domestic disputes, according to New York Post.

One of the arguments is claimed to be over finances. The Cheneys moved out of their Manhattan home and shifted to Connecticut in 2010. The pair then bought their present house in 2018 for $1.6 million. According to public records, the house is a sprawling six-bedroom, seven-bath, and is currently valued at more than $3.8 million.

What does Dale L Cheney's obituary say about him?

Cheney, who founded T-Street Capital, an independent growth equity firm, in Darien, Connecticut, in 2013, grew up in New Jersey and northern Virginia, according to his obituary. The New Jersey native was brought up alongside his four siblings. The Connecticut financier attended Brigham Young University in Utah, where he met his future wife, Lauren Colton. The two got married in the year 2000.
