Spoilers for ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ Season 2 Episode 9, ‘Witches’

The story of Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) and his master, it seems, has reached a new chapter. In season 2 episode 8, Nandor (Kayvan Novak) promised Guillermo that, one, he would ultimately be turned into a vampire, and two, he was now entitled to more breaks and privileges.

The latter, it seems, isn’t something Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) likes. Nadja wants Guillermo (who she often calls Gizmo) to continue to be servile. She still wants him to be at her every beck and call. Before things can escalate, however, unbeknownst to the others, Laszlo (Matt Berry) gets kidnapped by a coven of witches.

Nadja, who is paranoid about witches, immediately suspects something is wrong. She suspects witchery and foul play. And before long, Nandor too is kidnapped right before their very eyes. With Nadja’s keen sense of smell, she, Guillermo, and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) follow the “stench” of the witches to a wellness store in Brooklyn.

Soon, however, all three of them find themselves captives of the witches, locked in a room with infinite doors. All this while Guillermo and Nadja keep bickering, with the familiar ultimately throwing a loud “f*** you” at her.

Meanwhile, it becomes apparent that the reason why the witches kidnapped Nandor and Laszlo is that they wanted their semen to maintain their youthfulness. The witches were led by Lilith (Lucy Punch), who was not unfamiliar to either Nadja or Laszlo.

She and Nadja used to be friends a century or so ago. But then Lilith and Laszlo had an affair (then, too, she wanted his semen for witchcraft). As things got heated up, it was once again Guillermo who saved the day.

An avid watcher of ‘Shark Tank’, and filled with a newfound entrepreneurial spirit, Guillermo suggested that instead of surgically removing their semen, why couldn’t they come to an arrangement where Nandor and Laszlo would regularly supply them with semen and Guillermo would receive a cut from the witches’ profits -- they sold skincare products.

And so, things went back to normal. Or did they? Throughout the episode, it became abundantly clear that Guillermo is no longer satisfied being a familiar. He thinks about starting a business or looking for a new career opportunity. His spats with Nadja should also serve as a clue for how he no longer respects the other vampires (he still cares for Nandor).

Will the finale of this season then see Guillermo’s dissatisfaction reach a boiling point? Let’s hope not.

New episodes of ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ Season 2 air on FX every Wednesday at 10 pm ET/PT.
