PHOENIX, ARIZONA: Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has launched its innovative Green Curb program, designed to provide rideshare users with a dedicated pickup area specifically marked for electric vehicles.

This initiative aims to significantly reduce emissions while enhancing convenience for travelers.

The program’s introduction aligns with the airport’s comprehensive sustainability plan, "Roadmap to Net Zero Carbon," which outlines a strategic framework to achieve net zero carbon by 2040.

Phoenix Sky Harbor's vision for carbon reduction

This ambitious goal targets an absolute reduction of carbon emissions by a minimum of 90% from a 2010 baseline, with the remainder potentially addressed through carbon removal technologies, according to phoenix.gov.

Mayor Kate Gallego highlighted the airport's commitment to sustainability, emphasizing the forward-thinking collaborations with Uber and Waymo.

“Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is a leader in sustainability, and with innovative ideas and partnerships we have with Uber and Waymo, we are consistently pushing the envelope to ensure our airport remains on the cutting edge of every aspect of the passenger experience," Mayor Gallego said.

Pioneering sustainable air travel

Despite growth and expansion, the airport remains committed to further reducing its environmental footprint, working collaboratively with partners to spearhead advancements in environmental sustainability.

The Green Curb program emphasizes visible electric vehicle pickup locations, promoting the use of low-emission transportation methods.

Earlier announcements revealed Uber's commitment to passing on savings by offering customers a 40% discount on airport pickup and drop-off fees when choosing electric rides.
