Karamo Brown, the television personality and first openly gay Black man to be cast on a reality show, is taking to the hot seat on ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ to raise funds for a charity close to his heart. Despite his well-deserved reputation owing to his work in the entertainment industry, Karamo is known for his activism and contributions to the LGBTQ+ community. 

Brown began his career by contesting in the 2003 episode of ‘The 5th Wheel’. But, it was through his MTV reality series ‘The Real World: Philadelphia’ from 2004 that he gained popularity. After featuring in a couple more television shows, he served as a host on ‘Dr Drew On Call’, ‘The Young Turks’ and ‘HuffPost Live’.

Meanwhile, he produced ‘Own Show’. He was last seen as the culture expert on Netflix’s ‘Queer Eye’. In 2019, he penned his memoir titled ‘Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose’ and in the same year, he was seen in Taylor Swift’s ‘You Need to Calm Down’ music video.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Brown is reportedly worth $4 million. His total wealth is believed to be a culmination of his work on all the reality shows. His books that are available for sale on Amazon, 'Barned & Noble', have also contributed to his total net worth. However, not much is known about the salary he draws for appearing on the shows. 

Karamo Brown’s activism 

Watching Brown raise funds for Hollywood Food Coalition on ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ shouldn’t come as a surprise taking into consideration his contribution towards the minority communities. In 2014, he partnered with pharmaceutical company Janssen to empower the gay and bisexual community and founded 6in10.org in 2015. 6in10.org works towards combating the stigma surrounding HIV and provides mental health support to the Black LGBT community.

Brown is said to have directly worked with former President Barack Obama to support Obama Foundation and My Brother’s Keeper Alliance. Reportedly, he was invited by the Obama Administration to work with the White House to create policies to support the LGBTQ+ youth and their community. 

‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ will air on ABC on Wednesday at 8 pm ET.
