Emily Deschanel set to headline NBC's pilot based on real-life profiler and we're totally onboard
Emily Deschanel is all set to star as the leading character in an upcoming NBC show's pilot. According to a report by Deadline, the project, which is unnamed so far, is created by Dean Georgaris of 'The Brave' fame and John Fox, who is the President of Davis Entertainment. Inspired by the real-life career of expert profiler and author Dr. Ann Burgess, the one-hour pilot will feature Deschanel as Professor Georgia Ryan, a famous psychologist. Furthermore, she played a similar role as forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan for all 12 seasons of Fox's 'Bones.'
The official plot synopsis of the upcoming NBC show reads, "Professor Georgia Ryan (Deschanel) is a trailblazing psychologist who challenges the field of criminology by shifting the investigative focus to the victim rather than just the perpetrator in order to uncover the crucial clues that more traditional methods leave behind. Alongside her team, this pioneering expert consults with the FBI to solve the most baffling and elusive cases." Georgaris is an executive producer himself, alongside Fox and John Davis from Davis Entertainment. Deschanel has come on board as a producer, with Burgess serving as a consulting producer, alongside Steven Constantine. The production is being organized by a division of the Universal Studio Group, known as Universal Television. Both Davis Entertainment and Georgaris have a long association with Universal Television.
If NBC orders a full series based on the performance of the upcoming pilot, Deschanel would be seen as an unconventional criminal investigator with a knack for thinking outside the box. Playing a leading character in a crime procedural show isn't something that comes effortlessly to Deschanel, since she and her co-star, David Boreanaz, were the leading duo on the NBC show 'Bones', which ran for a total of 12 seasons on the network between 2005 and 2017. Interestingly enough, NBC has recently turned out to be the site of a sort of 'Bones' reunion, as Boreanaz has also been tapped by the network to star in the upcoming reboot of 'The Rockford Files'.
Her other notable television work includes 'The Rookie' on ABC, 'Animal Kingdom' on TNT, and the Netflix limited series 'Devil in Ohio'. She has also appeared in films such as 'Big Boys' and 'Ohio'. Apart from primarily working as an actress, Deschanel also tried her hand at producing during her time on 'Bones', and she even went on to make her directorial debut with the premiere episode of the show's twelfth and final season. She is represented by Gersh, Principal Entertainment LA, and Hansen Jacobsen Teller. All seasons and episodes of 'Bones' are available for streaming on Hulu.
