PHOENIX, ARIZONA: Lawmakers are proposing a new bill in Arizona, known as the "Taylor Swift Act," aiming to address the soaring costs of entertainment tickets and prevent exorbitant pricing, particularly in events such as concerts and sporting events.

According to Azfamily, the initiative comes in response to the skyrocketing prices faced by fans, notably during Taylor Swift's Era's tour, where tickets reached exorbitant resale prices, sometimes exceeding $2,000.

Rising ticket costs affect Arizona families

Glendale resident Elizabeth Frostfunes expressed her disappointment, stating, "We looked forward to going so bad. I even discussed putting it on my credit card and going into debt over it, and we just decided that was a pretty poor choice. It’s sad."

The increased pricing isn't limited to Taylor Swift's tour or concerts; in October this year, US Bureau of Labor Statistics data revealed a 25% surge in sporting event ticket prices compared to the same period last year.

"It’s getting really hard to do something outside of the house," Frostfunes added, reflecting a broader sentiment echoed by many.

The proposed legislation aims to tackle this issue by curbing resellers, including both individuals and automated bots, from inflating prices beyond specified ticket limits.

The Taylor Swift Act aims to curb ticket price 'exploitation'

Representative Ortiz emphasized the bill's intent: "It really is making sure that they cannot purchase above the posted ticket limit, and if they do that it gives the attorney general the authority to investigate them and eventually bring a civil penalty against them."

Scheduled for presentation during the upcoming legislative session in January, this bill aspires to empower Arizona families to enjoy entertainment without facing exploitation due to overly high ticket prices.

Ortiz believes it will positively impact the lives of ordinary Arizonans, stating, "This is about every Arizonan being able to have a nice night out of fun with their family without being exploited and having to pay incredibly high prices for something that should fit within every family’s budget."

The Taylor Swift Act is still in the pre-filing phase, with hopes that it will alleviate the financial burden on families seeking leisure activities, providing affordable entertainment options for all.
