What is the plot of 'Transatlantic'?

'Transatlantic,' a seven-part limited series, will unfold the tale of American journalist Varian Fry, who travels to Nazi-occupied France in the 1940s and quickly creates the Emergency Rescue Committee, which is dedicated to assisting artists and writers fleeing the Nazis and immigrating to the United States. Varian Fry and American heiress Mary Jayne Gold, who assisted in the rescue efforts, find themselves hiding out in a French villa while helping people including Hannah Arendt, Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp, and Marc Chagall.

Varian Fry, a man assigned to try and rescue artists and writers out of Nazi occupied France, is faced with an impossible moral conundrum: should he only save the 200 'extraordinary' people he was tasked with saving or ordinary people as well? At the end of it all, he was successful in saving 2,000 people in all.
