LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Let's take a journey to 18th-century France and peek into the life of its last queen and probably the biggest cake connoisseur ever, Marie Antoinette. The show about the infamous queen of France is hitting American screens on March 19, 2023, courtesy of PBS. Produced by BBC and Canal+ and written by Deborah Davis, 'Marie Antoinette' is a period drama TV series that dives into the early life of the Archduchess of Austria, who happens to be the penultimate child and the youngest daughter of Empress Maria Theresa and Emperor Francis I.

Antoinette was just 14 when she became the ultimate queen of France just before the French revolution took over. She became the Dauphine of France after getting married to Louis-Auguste. The series premiered in France on October 31, 2022, and in the UK on December 29, 2022. The eight-episode series stars Emilia Schüle playing the role of the queen. The date of release for 'Marie Antoinette' has been confirmed by the creators to be March 19, 2023, on PBS. It first aired on the French counterpart Canal+ back in October 2022.

What is the plot of 'Marie Antoinette'?

The action follows Austrian-born Marie Antoinette (Emilia Schüle) as she’s sent to France at 14 by her ambitious mother in order to cement peace between the two countries. The teen is expected to marry the 14-year-old Dauphin, the future King Louis XVI, and provide him with an heir. But she soon learns that the French courts are a treacherous place and she must fight, not only to do things her own way but also to stay alive.
