'What are they thinking?': Internet shares WILD video of people surfing in San Francisco flood waters
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: San Francisco has seen one of its wettest days on record as a winter storm brought flooding and heavy snow to California. A video of people surfing in the flood waters surfaced online, prompting netizens to react. Users pointed out how unhygienic the water was and were surprised that people did not realise that it was 'sewage water.'
More than 5 inches of rain has fallen in downtown San Francisco on Saturday, December 31, setting a new daily record, the National Weather Service for the San Francisco Bay Area said. Torrential rainfall and severe flooding prompted road closures across northern California on Saturday, December 31. The California Department of Transportation said all lanes on northbound Highway 101 at Oyster Point were blocked due to “extreme flooding,” while three southbound lanes were blocked. They warned that motorists should expect delays.

Sharing videos of the flood, a user tweeted "Never seen anything like this in San Francisco." Another user wrote, "This is what 5.46 inches of rainfall in a day looks like in San Francisco. Just barely missing the all time record for wettest day, 5.54 set back in November of 1994. Have a safe New Years Eve everyone as there’s still plenty of standing water!"

Several people wondered how people were surfing in the 'sewage water'. "That water contains sewage," "How can they even touch that water, the streets are full of fecal matter," "Do those guys not realise that they are surfing in raw sewage?" were just some of tweets posted by concerned Twitter users. "You couldn't pay me to touch that water. Not even a pinky. What are these people thinking. They gonna catch something for sure," read another tweet.
