Wendy Williams' son Kevin Hunter Jr is 'heartbroken' as 'selfish' mom hasn't spoken to him after leaving rehab
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Wendy Williams has reportedly not spoken to her son Kevin Jr after returning from rehab. Family sources say the 22-year-old is "heartbroken" over their fractured bond. The duo's relationship has faced several ups and downs this year. Wendy, 58, has reportedly been "home and healing" for the past two weeks after having re-entered rehab in September 2022 following reports of her erratic behavior and claims of substance abuse.
Fans gushed as the TV personality came back from rehab and gave them another tease of her upcoming podcast 'The Wendy Experience' earlier this month. Now, a close family friend has revealed that she last spoke to her son before she left the Malibu wellness facility a month ago.

"Wendy has not reached out to her son since she left the rehab. While she was in treatment, they were talking but the minute she got out, the communication stopped," the insider told The Sun. "Kevin has been through hell this year with everything going on with his mom. It breaks his heart that things seemed to be going well while she was in rehab, but as soon as she got her freedom, she hasn't reached out to him since," the source added. Further, they went on to mention that "Kevin has been trying to stay focused and finish up his last year of school, but it's been challenging having to deal with everything going on with his mother."
Kevin Jr reportedly gave his mother an ultimatum about a year ago that she should get help or he would be out of her life. “Wendy’s relationship with Kevin Jr has been strained," an insider close to the family told the publication. "He gave her an ultimatum. He told her he won't be in her life unless she fixes herself,” the source stated.
The past summer, Wendy's brother Tommy Williams claimed in a Facebook live session that her son had flown from Florida to New York City so he could surprise his mother on her 58th birthday in July, but the TV star refused to allow him up to her $4.5 million penthouse apartment. "Her son is up there to spend what could be monumental time with his mother, that is, if she opens the door," Tommy said, suggesting Kevin Jr was outside of Wendy's apartment but not allowed inside at the time. "She is not our celebrity. She's not the family celebrity. She's a member and she has her son out there like he's the paparazzi." The 55-year-old further alleged, "Talk about dragging, she's dragging everybody, namely, her son. She's selfish. One thing about Wendy is she's always been selfish. All the way back. Way before the Wendy show, way before."
Earlier this year, Kevin is said to have taken the responsibility of helping his mother heal in Florida after she was spotted throughout the fall of 2021 in a wheelchair while in New York City. She left the Big Apple for Florida in January and spent time with family till March, before returning home. At that time, sources told The Sun that the iconic talk show host was thriving in Florida while surrounded by loved ones.
However, once she returned to New York, Wendy appeared to relapse once again and had a number of public incidents involving alcohol. She eventually checked into rehab for severe alcoholism in August. "Alcohol has been a real struggle for her over the past several years. She is battling severe alcohol abuse mixed with serious health issues," a source familiar with the matter told The Sun. The insider said she was being treated for "extreme alcohol abuse. There are no other drugs involved. She has had numerous doctors who have told her for years 'If you drink, you'll die.' She never really wanted to stop and the people around her in New York have allowed her to keep drinking."
