Weird City EXCLUSIVE: Charlie Sanders on tackling the vanishing American middle class through sci-fi comedy

In this exclusive interview, Sanders spoke to MEA WorldWide about the characters and inspirations behind the YouTube Premium show
UPDATED FEB 25, 2019

Charlie Sanders, a comedy sketch artiste who worked on 'Key & Peele' with Jordan Peele is back with YouTube premium show 'Weird City'.

The show is a sci-fi anthology set in the near future where the world is divided between the 'haves and the have nots,' who in the show are designated as 'Above The Line' and 'Below the Line' respectively.

Show creator Sanders conceptualized the premise of the show as he felt that the middle class in America is slowly disappearing and he wanted to show a heightened perspective of the same in his comedy.

Sanders, in this exclusive interview with MEA WorldWide, spoke about his inspiration behind creating a character such as Dr Negari (LeVar Burton) to lead the show, the concept of the sci-fi anthology and how it felt to work with Jordan Peele again after 'Key & Peele'.
