'We Are Who We Are' Episode 7 Preview: Fraser flirts with naked Jonathan as Craig's death rocks the gang
Death and sex is in the air in the upcoming episode of 'We Are Who We Are'. The army base will be rocked by news of soldiers dying in the war far away -- the same soldiers that Richard (Kid Cudi) felt were not ready for war but Sarah sent to the battlefront anyway. The same platoon of soldiers who had the easy-going and loving Craig (Corey Knight) among their numbers.
In Episode 4, we had Craig marrying his Italian sweetheart and spending a hedonistic night with his younger friends and brother, Sam (Ben Taylor), before shipping off to the frontline. We also saw how he was one of the people holding the group of friends together, breaking up fights, and brokering peace. He was also the only person who Danny (Spence Moore II) confided in. After he left, the group has fallen apart.
In the solemn trailer, we see people stand in silence to pay their respects to the dead soldiers as Sarah gives a formal speech. "We dream of peace, we all do. But there are those who have to pay a price for our tranquility. And who else, if not our men and women," she says, as the camera pans to Richard, who looks visibly angry and upset. We see the varied reactions of people on the base to the news. Caitlin (Jordan Kristine Seamón) sees a black official military car parked with people surrounding it and she knows something bad has happened, while Danny prepares to offer ritualistic Islamic prayers following the video tutorials he has been watching in secret. We also see Fraser trying to comfort Caitlin.
It becomes evident that Craig is among those dead for whom the base is flying its flags at half-mast because we see the old group gather again. All of them look devastated and Sam screams at Caitlin to join them while he excludes Fraser. "He was never one of us. Come on!", he urges and Caitlin, after a moment of hesitation goes to join Sam, Britney, Craig's Italian wife, and the rest of the old gang.
Fraser is left all alone on the curbside. The synopsis also states that they all blame Fraser's mother for Craig's death since she ordered the underprepared platoon to go fight a full-fledged war.
There is also truth to what Sam is saying. Craig's death will not mean the same thing to Fraser as it does to the others. And we find evidence of this in the way Fraser is completely wrapped up in his thoughts of wooing Jonathan while the rest are grieving. We see Fraser walk into the soldiers' quarters to find Jonathan's room. When Jonathan opens the door, he is naked and Fraser looks smitten as he smiles at him, wanting to continue the way they flirted on their 'not-date' date. But, there is a possibility that Jonathan is in his room with someone else, which might crush any hopes Fraser has of making their friendship a romance.
Caitlin abandoning him at this sensitive moment could have a deep impact on him. Caitlin and Fraser have already been separated by Richard. We can expect him to become even harsher about their separation because now he has a genuine bone to pick with Col. Sarah Wilson, his superior. He will blame her for Craig's death and of the other soldiers because he had told her that they were not 100% battle-ready. We'll see what form his resentment will take in the upcoming episode whose official synopsis promises that "Richard’s insubordination will reach a breaking point".
'We Are Who We Are' Episode 7 airs on Monday on HBO at 10 pm ET.
