The streaming platform Hulu will soon be releasing a new documentary called 'We Are Freestyle Love Supreme'. This indie music documentary, which first aired at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, centers around a group of talented young rap improvisers called Freestyle Love Supreme and how they cut their teeth in the entertainment world. Most of these people went on to dominate the world of musical theater, including standout 'Hamilton' & 'In The Heights' names like Lin-Manuel Miranda, Christopher Jackson, Anthony Veneziale, and Thomas Kail, and other big performers in the industry like James Monroe Iglehart and Utkarsh Ambudkar, besides other talents. The film also features stock footage taken by the director Andrew Fried from those early years and includes interviews with the hip-hop performers as they look back on their 15-year journey, which culminated in a reunion show in New York City, and later on, a limited series run on Broadway last year. If you're a fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda and his music productions, then this promises to be a spellbinding must-watch. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming music documentary.

Release date

'We Are Freestyle Love Supreme' was scheduled to be released on June 5 and runs for nearly 90 minutes. It was later announced that the documentary air date would be delayed in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter protests. The new release date has now been confirmed as July 17 by Freestyle Love Supreme.

Plot

According to the Sundance site, in part, "Freestyle Love Supreme was a way for these carefree artists out of college to experiment with theater and craft their own unique musical sound. This film chronicles a 15-year journey of twists and turns, friendship, and unprecedented musical talent culminating with much-anticipated reunion performances in New York City in 2019. Fourteen years later, after directing famed series like 'Chef's Table' and '7 Days Out', Fried revisits old footage to craft this fated story. Both poignant and inspired, We Are Freestyle Love Supreme recalls the creative dreams of youth and why this project still means so much to these accomplished performers."
