'Watchmen' Episode 6 hints at link between Ku Klux Klan, Cyclops, Seventh Kavalry and maybe even the one-eyed giant squid

Cyclops is the name of the order that Senator Joe Keene's father is a part of, and Episode 6 of 'Watchmen' hints at how the two can possibly be connected.

'Watchmen' Episode 6 revealed the identity of the person under Hooded Justice's hood to be Will Reeves, a black cop from NYPD. This cop, who is in the present a 105-year-old man and also Angela Abar's grandfather had launched an investigation into an outfit called the Cyclops that aimed to erase the black population in the US out of existence. The first time Reeves heard about it, it was a warning from a senior official who was also black.

Reeves was warned the day he got his badge but did not pay heed. Later, upon further investigation, he learns that the Cyclops is an off-shoot of the Ku Klux Klan, which was the white supremacist group behind the 1921 Tulsa massacre. Similar to the parent outfit, Cyclops also had members who were cops. These cops ensured that Cyclops members stayed out of trouble and also planned a big event by using mind-control technology, which was then referred to as mesmerism.

The faction used theatres as a venue where they played films that helped the Cyclops subliminally program black members of the audience. It instigated unrest among the black population by putting them up to fight each other and this caused multiple deaths. The incident, while not as big as the one in Tulsa, Oklahoma; aimed at achieving exactly the same thing as the Ku Klux Klan members did in 1921. The members of Cyclops used a variation of the okay gesture, which is in real life, a symbol associated with white supremacy. Their symbol is an eye and it is this eye that connects Ku Klux Klan, Cyclops and the Seventh Kavalry.

Initially, many had wondered if this symbol was related to the giant squid that had landed on 11/2 in New York. However, this goes beyond the squid to June 2, 1955, when Senator Keene Sr had addressed a letter to Chief Crawford's father. The letter also had the stamp of this symbol. The Ku Klux Klan robe that is hidden in Crawford's wardrobe was also revealed to have belonged to his grandfather, and that connects the order and the Klan. Furthermore, the letter and the cover of the Reeves investigation folder regarding Cyclops have the stamp of the eye.

Now, coming to Seventh Kavalry (7K) in the present, we have seen the symbol of the eye pop up in episode 5 when Looking Glass was lured into 7K's hideout spot. This episode featured Senator Keene Jr as a member of the 7K, who had access to a top-secret video of Adrian Veidt's confession that the giant squid was a hoax. The Keene family is clearly a part of the order, which we can not assume is the Cyclops seeing as the eye is graffitied on the walls. The idea of using a psychic blast to kill thousands of people using a one-eyed giant squid could be an idea that struck Veidt because of the mind control technology that was used in the past once, but at this point, this is just a theory.

The next episode of 'Watchmen' will air on Sunday at 9 pm on HBO.
