Cinemax 'Warrior' Season 2 Episode 4: Mai Ling and Ah Toy meet for first time, how long before they face off?
'Warrior' Season 2 Episode 4 sees what we would consider one of the most important clashes of the show so far and that is the meeting between Ah Toy (Olivia Cheng) and Mai Ling (Diane Doan). The two women who hold powerful positions -- one as the head of a tong and one with her house where all kinds of information, deals and more are made -- haven't had a chance to meet each other in public and that is exactly what happened in this episode of 'Warrior'. Turns out Mai Ling has a complex about not being noticed and respected and that gets triggered when Ah Toy sees her but doesn't greet her.
To greet someone more powerful, older than you is a custom that is followed religiously in southeast Asai. So when Mai Ling notices Ah Toy not do the bare minimum, she seeks her out and the two exchange the customary greetings. From the very beginning it is clear that Ah Toy and Mai Ling will end up becoming a force to reckon with but not on the same side. Mai Ling proves that when she says that people usually greet her when they know who she is and for Ah Toy to not do so despite knowing who she is could only mean one thing and that is the fact that Ah Toy believes herself to be better than Mai Ling.
There are a few seconds where Ah Toy hesitates, but then she gives in because she is aware of the importance of retreating when necessary. Something that her friend Ah Sahm is not aware of. It is clear that Ah Toy will not hesitate to attack Mai Ling and only waits for the right chance but she will not make a move without there being something in it for her and we wonder if Mai Ling working with Assistant Mayor Buckley will start off an adverse reaction that will bring the other tongs together and leave Mai Ling out.
Then again, Mai Ling has her own backup plans in place and it is in this attempt that she begins to invest in businesses instead of just lending out money for interest. She believes that one must hide their money in different baskets to be able to handle any situation and she is doing so because she knows that there is a chance that the tongs might disappear. However, Hop Wei, Fung Kai breaking down will bring a huge loss for Chao and that's where his plan, the one that he discussed with Li Yong comes into place.
Considering how he has made the first move already and reached out to Bill, we wonder who is going to fall prey to this mastermind's plans.
