'WandaVision' Episode 1 & 2 Spoilers: Is Vision really alive? His 'Illusion' moniker hints he never came back
Spoilers for 'WandaVision' Episodes 1 and 2
As refreshing as it was to watch Paul Bettany reprise his role as Vision in Marvel's first Phase 4 miniseries, 'WandaVision', the character, safe to say, might not have come back to life after all. For those who remember, the android, who was created by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' was killed by Thanos (Josh Brolin) during the events of 'Avengers: Infinity War'. However, he does pop back in the series as if everything in his world with Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) is right as rain.
So, how did Vision come back to life?
He never did. Perhaps, Vision would have been alive if he was a victim of Thanos' snap which was reversed in 'Avengers: Endgame', but he was in fact killed by the mad Titan making it impossible for him to come back to life. Much of the speculations ahead of the series on social media and Reddit was that the android was actually Wanda creating an event in her head. The telekineses lady struggled to cope with Vision's loss before falling as a victim to Thanos's snap.
This takes us back to the House of M storyline from the comics. In the comics, Wanda is an extremely powerful but highly unstable mutant who can reshape reality itself using her abilities. ‘WandaVision’ could see her use her powers to create a “perfect world” similar to the ‘House of M’ storyline from the comics.
We will probably see her resurrecting Vision and we might even get to see her create versions of their children from the comics, William and Tommy. In the 'House of M' story, Wanda used her powers to reshape the world into her own idea of perfection, with mutants ruling the world and humans as second-class citizens.
Though the MCU hasn't had enough of the mutants to justify doing the storyline in its entirety, the idea of Wanda creating what she sees as the perfect world is something that could be retained. Of course, such a fantasy world cannot last forever so we’ll probably see Wanda lose control of her powers and her sanity.
Did Marvel hint at this in the early stages of the show?
That Vision calls himself 'Illusion' makes perfect sense. He was an illusion after all if we were to consider the above theory. In Episode 2, the neighbors come together for a fundraiser and the superhero couple does their part by performing some magic tricks. Vision introduces himself as Illusion and Wanda as Glamour. The latter calling herself shows she is in a world that's all glitzy and nice but is it really?
