'WandaVision' may see Paul Bettany's Vision return through a multiverse crossover, time travel or in a holographic avatar

Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner's words are to be credited if the Wakandan genius Shuri has a role in bringing or favorite android back to life
PUBLISHED AUG 12, 2019

When Thanos' (Josh Brolin) snap was reversed in 'Avengers: Endgame', not all our beloved superheroes came back to life.  Notable absentees were Scarlett Johannson's Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow and Paul Bettany's Vision.

When it came to Vision particularly, the lingering question was how the android would be revived ahead of 'WandaVision', that is slated to hit Disney+ in 2021.  From what we know about the six-episode, Phase 4 mini-series, there could be elements of time travel involved. As Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda Maximoff,  hinted in an interview with Variety, the show would be set in the '50s, meaning we would probably be seeing a time jump as well.

Vision was one of the Avengers who remains dead after being killed by Thanos in 'Avengers: Infinity War'. However, there is still a possibility that we may see him in the series, either as a physical entity teaming up with Wanda or as a holographic version possibly created by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) during the events of 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'.

The theory of a physical form stems from what Banner had to say about Vision during 'Infinity War'.  When Vision talks about destroying the mind stone, the working theory was that he too would be destroyed as his life force came from the stone.

"Your mind is made up of a complex construct of overlays. J.A.R.V.I.S., Ultron, Tony, me, the Stone. All of them mixed together. All of them learning from one another," Banner says. "I'm saying that if we take out the stone, there's still a whole lot of Vision left. Perhaps the best parts."

That's when the genius of Leticia Wright's Shuri comes in as she tries to separate Vision from the stone, but as luck would have it, the Wakanda battle ends with Vision meeting his end at the hands of Thanos, while Shuri is one of the many snapped away.

If this theory from Banner is considered, then we may see Wanda probably teaming up with one of the Avengers and heading back to Wakanda to revive Vision — minus the stone perhaps. After all, the scientist did say that Vision could still live without the stone.

If not, the alternative is to see if there is a backed-up version of Vision that could be Wanda's comfort and guiding light in her next journey. With the series rumored to have direct ties with 'Captain Marvel 2' and 'Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness', courtesy the casting choices and the release date, we may probably see Vision in either of these two forms.

The final possibility is that Vision comes from another dimension, or in this case, from a different multiverse. We don't know if that Vision will be the same android that helped the Avengers defeat Ultron but at this stage, it would probably open the door to the Multiverse concept, one that was teased in 'Spider-Man: Far From Home'.

Ultimately, much of this is still speculation. At the moment, we don't know how Marvel plans to reintroduce Vision back in the MCU fold, but if there's Vision mentioned in the series title, we may somehow see the rebirth of the character.

'WandaVision' is slated to release on Disney+ in 2021.
