'Volcano Live with Nik Wallenda': Erendira hangs by her teeth as she performs 'aerial ballet' over volcano

As the active volcano spewed out lava and toxic fumes, Erendira started performing some serious anxiety-inducing ballet moves

Erendira Wallenda attempted the most dangerous stunt of her life and finished it with a flourish. The wife of tight rope stunt man Nik Wallenda and a stuntwoman herself,  Erendira hung by her hoop over the Nicaraguan volcano on Wednesday night. As the active volcano spewed out lava and toxic fumes, Erendira started performing some serious anxiety-inducing ballet moves.

At one point, Erendira, who was wearing a mask to protect herself, was hanging by her toes as she bent over backward watching the volcano below. Then she went on to perform the crown jewel of her stunts — hanging by her teeth over the volcano.

The couple was performing over the Masaya Volcano National Park with a distance of 1,800 feet below them. "I told myself that this is what I do. I heard my music in my head and I calmed down," she told hosts 'The Bachelor's Chris Harrison and ESPN’s Sage Steele. She looked exhilarated, understandably, while Nik looked relieved by his wife's feat. "We didn't get any sleep last night and had to make last-minute changes because of the strong winds," he told the hosts.

In 2017, Erendira rode a helicopter 300 feet high in the air and hung by her teeth from an aerial hoop and it earned Erendira a world record for the highest suspension over water. However, this volcano stunt involved a large and heavy mask that restricted her vision and got in the way and it was the first time that she had performed with it.

Nik and Erendira have been performing for 21 years together. As one would expect, he also proposed to Erendira on a 30 feet high wire during a performance in Montreal, Quebec. Wallenda holds 11 Guinness World Records for various acrobatic feats.
