Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour has said in an Instagram video that her physician son, Dr Charles Shaffer, who works at a Manhattan hospital, has coronavirus.

In the Instagram video posted by Vogue, the 70-year-old said, “My son is a doctor. He is currently quite ill and self-quarantining at home, but when he is able, he will return to the ICU at his hospital.”

Adding more about her 35-year-old doctor son in the social media video, the British journalist stated, “I am so proud of him, and so grateful to all the health workers, first responders, nurses and doctors who are working to stop the spread of the virus and save lives.”

WCBS reported that Dr Shaffer works at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center as a chief resident. He fell ill after working with coronavirus patients in the city, where more than 76,876 city residents have tested positive for the deadly virus.

In the same video, Wintour also mentioned “A Common Thread,” that she and designer Tom Ford have started to raise money for American fashion workers who are financially affected by the global health crisis.

“I have been speaking to so many American designers and others in the community who fear that their businesses and their livelihoods may not survive what we’re all going through,” she said, adding, “The fund that we have created is intended to help them and the talented people they work with – the pattern makers, the cutters, the tailors, the embroiderers and so many more.”

The fashion icon also shared an article written for Vogue on her Instagram account. Wearing a face mask, along with her signature sunglasses, Wintour through her post said, “When life changes, you notice things in new ways. I’m sure we’ve all, for instance, become very aware of every inch of our homes in recent weeks. And I hope that you’ve discovered what it feels like to wear a face mask when you go out."

“As we are learning from health officials, this is one of the most important steps we can take to slow the spread of this virus. If you don’t have a mask, a simple fabric covering will do.”

Continuing further, she noted, “Face masks, social distancing, weeks spent at home: everything about life feels different now. I think of the simple pleasures we once took for granted—like going to the theater, dinner with friends, coming into the office—and they seem to me like impossible luxuries. It’s true that this is a time of anxiety and sadness, and that there is more of both to come, but I also believe it’s a time of gratitude.”

Wintour stated that she felt grateful for the people whom she has been in touch within recent days as she added, “I am grateful for a few other things too: Generosity most of all. I have been so moved by acts of philanthropy in the fashion community in particular, and, of course, by the many donors large and small who have supported A Common Thread, the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund we’ve created to help American designers in this challenging time.”
