Vogue's Anna Wintour thinks Meghan Markle is 'amazing', says her wedding dress was 'sophisticated, chic and grown-up'
Haters of Meghan Markle have to wait a little longer to criticize her about fashion because the Duchess of Sussex has Vogue's stamp of approval. The fashion magazine's Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour, was recently asked to give her opinion on one of the most visible and popular members of the royal family and she had only praise to heap on Meghan.
"I think she's amazing," said the 69-year-old Wintour, who went on to say that she and the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton "are going to keep the royal family afloat."
The praise came into the picture as vogue.com is releasing a video series called 'Go Ask Anna' this week. In the series, Wintour answers reader questions on camera. The first question in the premiere episode was about Meghan, and Wintour made it clear that she's a fan.
"I read somewhere that there were members of the royal household that were confused and upset that she woke up so early, at 5 am," she said. "She's a normal California girl, gets up early, does yoga and meditates. And also [they're upset that she] sent a lot of text messages. I mean what do they expect, that she was gonna send messages via pigeon?"
"So, I think she's amazing. And the royal wedding had the whole world watching and I think that her choice was brilliant, it was sophisticated, it was chic, it was grown up. It was an English designer, albeit one that was working for a French house, which in a way was a message to the world: Yes, I'm from somewhere else, but I belong. I thought she looked fantastic. The fact that she chose to walk down the aisle by herself, I also thought spoke for an independent woman." she continued.
"I think the picture of the Duchess of Sussex's mother at the chapel at the wedding was so inspiring to so many women, men all over the world."
Her enthusiastic praise didn't stop with Prince Harry's bride. She was also seen praising Kate Middleton too. "I think the two duchesses, the young duchess that they have in Britain, the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex are going to keep the royal family afloat, quite frankly," Wintour said.
This is not the first time that Kate has received approval from Vogue. In April 2016, the Duchess of Cambridge appeared on the cover of British Vogue's centenary issue, helping to mark the publication's 100th anniversary.
British Vogue was helmed by the former Editor, Alexandra Shulman, at the time and they collaborated with the National Portrait Gallery on a series of striking portraits of the royal, capturing her looking and enjoying the countryside.
It was the first time the Duchess of Cambridge agreed to pose for the front cover of a magazine, and she found herself following the footsteps of Princess Diana, who graced the publication front on four occasions.
Now, after getting Wintour's positive appraisal, the Duchess of Sussex could probably be the next royal to make an appearance on the cover page of the famous magazine.
