Vince Vaughn calls Donald Trump 'personable' during handshake, Internet rallies to cancel 'unconvincing' actor
After garnering immense backlash for shaking hands with President Donald Trump in a now-viral video, actor Vince Vaughn has explained his actions during an interview with the Los Angeles Times. The self-proclaimed Libertarian came under fire after he was seen shaking hands with Trump at the college football national championship game in January.
Defending the moment, the actor claimed that despite his friendly chat with the president, it was the other republican Ran Paul who he supported during the 2016 election. In the viral video, Vaughn is engaged in a conversation with Trump at the private suite in the stadium, which concludes with a handshake, while First Lady Melania Trump sits in between not paying much attention to the conversation.

The actor was subjected to severe criticism for supporting a “racist” and slammed for being cordial with Trump. However, the actor told the newspaper that he has always been cordial with all the politicians before expressing his opinion of Trump.
"In my career, I’ve met a lot of politicians who I’ve always been cordial to; I’ve met Nancy Pelosi and was cordial to her as well. It was the only time I’ve ever met him. We said hello. He was very personable. I didn’t get into policies,” Vaughn said.
"I think people are more charged than ever about these things. But I don’t think most people take that stuff as seriously as the small percentage that’s making noise about it. I was raised with the idea that you could have different likes and beliefs and you should respect and defend that in other people, not shout it down. The people you disagree with the most, you should stand up for their right to do that,” he added.
Even though the ‘Breakup’ actor defended his stance, it didn’t go down well with a significant number of people, who took to Twitter to slam him. Meanwhile, a lot of them have questioned his political views after witnessing him share a rather pleasant moment with Trump, with both parties smiling.
One tweeted, "Trump-supporting celebrities sitting in their glass chambers think it’s fashionable to be different/balanced but racism, sexism and treason effects normal people and the country. Loser Trump refusing to concede is damaging American democracy. What will #VinceVaughn says now!" Another said, "I don’t even know if these two losers act anymore, but I’ll never watch a movie with either of them! Vince Vaughn and James Wood. ... two peas in a trump pod. #BoycottVinceVaughn."
One tweeted, "Thirsty MF made an effort go to where Trump was seated. This wasn't like he just bumped in to him. His explanation + what our eyes see don't match. Don't trust these folks out here. If you're wondering how Trump got so many votes, it's your friends, neighbors + Vince Vaughn"
A user said, "Can we cancel this Trump-loving dope yet? He's not even a decent actor. He one of those actors who plays every role like 'Vince Vaughn plays a sea captain!' or 'Vince Vaughn plays a thief!' He actually plays Vince Vaughn in every role. Wholly unconvincing and just bad."
