A disgusting pedophile has been sentenced to 19 years in prison after he filmed himself sexually assaulting his girlfriend's two-year-old daughter and muzzling her to stop her screams.

Describing his offenses as "a different kind of evil", District Court Judge Leanne Clare sentenced 44-year-old Jason Daron Mizner on Friday. The judge had to delay a previous sentencing for the Queensland child rapist after she was so shaken by the rape tapes she needed a break to ensure she didn't "overwhelm the sentence".

Mizner, who claimed to be a yoga teacher, pleaded guilty to over 60 child sex offenses including more than 30 counts of rape, many of which he had videotaped right from the early 2000s. He was only caught when the Australian girl's mother found a bag of his possessions at home when he went on holiday to Thailand.

Inside the bag, she found recordings, handwritten notes detailing how to exploit children, and a folder listing names of the children, including his two-year-old victim. It also contained names of single mothers and their addresses as well as plans to arrange a child-exploitation ring, Daily Mail reports.

In the recordings, Mizner would muzzle the baby if she screamed and he could not calm her down, the judge revealed. She also said during sentencing that Mizner had shown no remorse for what he had done. Justice Clare said: "It was (the girl's mother) who found the recordings. That content would be excruciating for most people. I only watched a portion and it has been a battle to get the vision of your offending out of my head. I cannot imagine the horror of it for (the girl's) mother."

According to the highly experienced judge, her struggle to cope with the distressing footage came despite 30 years of dealing with extreme cases of child abuse. That said, Mizner will be eligible for parole in 2031, after serving at least 15 years of his 19-year sentence.

Justice Clare said at an earlier hearing at Brisbane District Court on Tuesday that she had viewed a portion of one of the recordings and found it "very confronting." "I think it would be best to put some distance between the viewing of that tape and the delivery of the judgment so that it does not overwhelm the sentence," she said, adjourning proceedings until Friday. But with more than 60 child sex crimes towards the two-year-old infant that Mizner pleaded guilty to, the prosecution wanted the 44-year-old jailed for life.

However, owing to the "torture" he suffered the last time he was in prison for a different crime, Mizner's lawyers argued his sentence should be reduced. According to them, the abuse their client suffered when he spent years in a Thai jail for a separate sexual assault of another young child should have been taken into account for the current judgment.

"He received beatings and other torture, partly in relation to [the Australian] offending," Mizner's lawyer said. "The Australian Federal Police gave evidence at the [Thai] hearing about the Australian offending, so it's not much of a stretch that inmates in Thailand would have known."

But Justice Clare asserted at the time that, just because the pedophile had a difficult time during his incarceration in Thailand, there was no reason for reducing his potential sentence as they were two separate crimes. "The report outlines deprivations and abuses that your client has described, but to say he's been tortured for 11 years is an overstatement of the material, frankly," she said.

Mizner was 31 at the time of the assaults and had formed a relationship with the Australian girl's mother when he committed the devious acts over a number of months, the court heard. The mother found the videos he had made along with a range of other unrelated child exploitation material while he was on a holiday in Thailand.

During his stay in Thailand, he repeated the same pattern — forming a relationship with a local woman before sexually assaulting her young daughter — and was arrested by Thai law enforcement. After serving 11 years of a 35-year sentence, Mizner was deported to Brisbane, where Australian authorities arrested him.

Having said that, this was the second time Mizner's sentencing was delayed. In September, a doctor suffered a heart attack while preparing a psychological report for the court, thereby delaying the case.

The defense argued that the report showed Mizner suffered a brain injury after a motorcycle accident when he was 21, leaving him "uninhibited". But it also revealed that the pedophile had a "predilection for babies" and had "a medium-to-high chance of re-offending if not incarcerated," Justice Clare pointed out at the time. "Even a low risk of re-offending when it comes to raping babies is a substantial risk to deal with. When it's a medium-to-high risk... it's alarming," she said.
