Parents torture trucker to death after kids 'lied' he touched them below the waist while giving them a lift
Two parents are facing murder charges after they tortured and killed "an innocent man" with "particular cruelty" thinking he was a pedophile who sexually assaulted their children. Russian authorities believe that a ten-year-old girl who claimed truck driver Dmitry Chikvarkin, 48, touched her and a three-year-old was "lying" as some kind of a twisted "joke", The Sun reported. According to the report, Chikvarkin had driven the two children to a carer at the request of their parents. But when the three-year-old's mother Valeria Dunaeva, 25, came to collect the girls, they reportedly told her the truck driver "had touched them below the waist." Dunaeva became infuriated and passed on the allegations to her lover Sergey Chabin, 33, the father of the ten-year-old girl. Police in Russia's Verkhnyaya Pyshma, Sverdlovsk region revealed how the pair subsequently summoned three male friends and they attacked the truck driver as a group of vigilantes. "They found the man who previously gave a lift to the children," a police source told the Znak newspaper. "First, he was raped in the anus with a metal pipe. Then they smashed his head with the same pipe, breaking his skull."
According to the report, a woman who cared for the children -- purportedly an aunt of Dunaeva's ex-husband -- was also attacked as she tried to protect Chikvarkin, who was a friend of hers. The truck driver was still breathing when the group left, but succumbed to his head injuries later on -- orphaning his six-year-old daughter in the process. "He just wanted to help by giving the kids a life, but he was killed," a friend told Russian daily Komsomolskaya Pravda. "He would never harm children."
Authorities who interrogated both children believed the older girl's accusation was a complete fabrication and that she invented it as a "joke." They concluded that the claim was a total lie. Dunaeva and Chabin have been detained by police along with an alleged accomplice Mikhail Ivanov, 27. The two other attackers are said to be on the run. Meanwhile, those detained are reportedly charged with "murder with special cruelty by a group of persons by prior conspiracy."
As reported by The Sun, the men are facing potential life sentences, while the woman is looking at up to 20 years in prison. While Chikvarkin was wrongfully killed over false accusations of pedophilia, there have been several disturbing cases of real pedophiles walking the streets of Russia.
In April, we reported how 35-year-old Alexander Lipatov was being held on allegations that he preyed on minors outside a teenage disco where a 13-year-old girl was kidnapped, raped, and strangled to death. Local police suspected Lipatov was part of a child sex gang with at least one other accomplice who was still on the run at the time.
The schoolgirl's body was later recovered by authorities from a 5ft-deep makeshift grave in a nearby forest after a massive search that involved over 600 volunteers. The Russian Investigative Committee noted how forensic evidence later revealed she had been raped and strangled to death with an electric cable.
The following month, a 12-year-old boy was raped and murdered by a homeless man after luring him into an abandoned building in Ukraine.
Rodion Volkov was returning home from football training when a man approached and started a conversation with him in the city of Dnipro. The stranger was able to gain the schoolboy's trust and lead him to a nearby grocery store, buying him a pack of sweets, per reports. The boy is seen in CCTV images standing next to the 59-year-old man in the said shop, where he allegedly invited Rodion for a tour of an abandoned building in a local park nearby. Investigators said that just moments after entering the building, the man proceeded to rape the boy and kill him. According to them, the man continued to have sex with the boy's dead corpse after the murder.
