Dayton shooting: Nine victims included a 'wonderful mother’ and medical graduate who 'loved his patients'

Nine innocent people lost their lives and 27 were left injured in the horrific Dayton mass shooting attack on Sunday, August 4

DAYTON, OHIO: Nine innocent people lost their lives in a mass shooting that took place in a popular neighborhood in Dayton, Ohio, on Sunday, August 4.

The shooter was identified as Connor Betts, 24, who was killed by the police less than a minute after launching the attack. 

Betts had managed to open fire using a .223-caliber high-capacity gun which killed nine people and left 27 others wounded.

The family members of all the nine victims, all of whom were from the Oregon District of Dayton, have been notified.

Assistant Chief of Police Matt Carper shared that the police were still trying to determine the motive of the shooter was, and if all the victims were targeted. 

The victims include: 

1. Logan M. Turner, 30

Logan Turner was described as "sweet and smart" by his mother Danita (Twitter)

30-year-old Logan M Turner of Springboro was one amongst nine people who got shot and killed in the Ohio mass shooting that took place outside the Ned Peppers bar on Sunday.

Turner's mother, Danita, described her son as "sweet and smart". "He was very generous and loving and the world’s best son. Everyone loved Logan. He was a happy go lucky guy, she shared."

Turner had just celebrated his 30th birthday on Tuesday. 

2. Lois L. Oglesby, 27

Nursing student Lois L. Oglesby was also amongst those who were killed in the shooting. Oglesby left behind a newborn and an older daughter, her childhood friend Derasha Merrett shared with Dayton Daily News.

"She was a wonderful mother, a wonderful person. I have cried so much, I can’t cry anymore," she added. 

3. Nicholas Cumer, 25

25-year-old Nicholas Cumer, a graduate student in the master of cancer care program at Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania, was working as an intern for Maple Tree Cancer Alliance, a treatment center, in Dayton. Alliance released a statement saying that Cumer "loved his patients and served them well, with a loving and caring spirit." 

4. Thomas McNichols, 25

Thomas McNichols was the father of two girls and two boys, whose ages range from two to eight. His aunt remembered him as a "gentle giant".

"Everybody loved him. He was like a big kid," his aunt Donna Johnson shared. She recalled how she and Thomas snacked on Twizzlers together before heading out to the Oregon District where the shooting took place. 

5. Derrick Fudge, 57

57-year-old Derrick Fudge was out with his son Dion Green, his son's fiance, and several others when he was shot.

The victim's sister, Twyla Southall shared, "They were all just down there enjoying themselves and had stepped out of, I think, one of the clubs and were in a line to get some food. His son is very distraught."

6. Megan K. Betts, 22

22-year-old Megan K. Betts was the youngest victim to die in the Dayton, Ohio shootings. She was the little sister of the gunman Connor Betts who was responsible for the shooting.

Betts was an environmental-science student at Wright State University. 

7 and 8. Beatrice Warren Curtis, 36 and Monica Brickhouse, 39

Friends Beatrice Warren Curtis, 36 and Monica Brickhouse, 39 were out together when they were killed.

A friend of theirs, Tonya Amos shared, "I had the opportunity to manage and mentor them for some years. We sat beside each other every day. We have laughed and cried together. Shared life stories and supported each other. These two ladies were very special to me. I’m sad and mad and this senseless loss. I cannot imagine how their families feel if I’m feeling this way."

 

9. Saeed Saleh, 38

Saeed Saleh was also amongst those who tragically lost their lives in the Dayton shootings.
