The first and only Vice Presidential debate between Senator Kamala Harris and Vice President Mike Pence is underway and things are slowed getting heated up. This debate is being moderated by Susan Page and keeping the Covid-19 safety protocols in mind, plexiglasses have been installed on the desks.

It was expected that the debate would start with the topic of the ongoing pandemic and it did. At one point, Page asked Pence if he has brought up the issue of presidential disability with President Donald Trump. However, Pence chose to highlight the Trump administration's response to the pandemic. Even Harris was asked: "Senator, let me ask you the same question that I asked Vice-President Pence, which is — have you had a conversation or reached an agreement with Vice-President Biden about safeguards or procedures when it comes to the issue of presidential disability? And if not, and if you win the election next month, do you think that you should?"

Harris evaded the question and spoke about her qualifications instead. "I think Joe has asked me to serve with him because he knows that we share, we share a purpose which is about lifting up the American people and after the four years that we have seen of Donald Trump unifying our country around our common values and principles," she said.

This became a talking point on the internet. A user said, "Harris dodged one (the one about a plan for temporary presidential disability). She wasn't asked, 'Are you qualified?' but rather 'Have you discussed a plan?' That being said, she's answered more directly than Pence on nearly all the other questions." Another tweeted, "Pence boosting on climate change. Harris boosting on taxes and she literally got asked about presidential disability and swerved it. That’s a HUGE question we deserve to know."

One commented, "Role of VP — Safeguards for Presidential disability — Harris: talks about values, public service, dignity — talks to her c.v. — addresses corruption c.v. — didn't answer question." One user stated, "Turned off #VicePresidentialDebate after Harris didn't even try to answer the question about Presidential disability." One noted, "Kamala Harris in response the Pence on COVID-19: the American people deserve to be informed. Also Kamala Harris when asked about presidential disability: [proceeds to dodge the question and brag about her career for 2 minutes]."

Another user observed, "Neither the VP Mike Pence or Sen. Kamala Harris answered the question about if there´s a plan if something would happen to the Presidential candidates, like illness, disability or even death!" One user claimed, "Harris's answer to the presidential disability question was basically 'I'm on this ticket because I'm probably going to be president' and I am here for it." A user opined, "Harris hasn't answered a Q either. Asked about convo re possible disability of Biden she gave her resume. Pols recite their talking points regardless of any question. Hate it."

Another commented, "When asked how she will deal with Biden’s disability, Harris just read her resume. She disgusts me. When she speaks she sounds just so condescending." One questioned, "How hard would it be for Harris to answer the question about Presidential transition in case of disability? Why did she ramble on about nothing? It's an important question!!!"
