Senator Kamala Harris said she will be the first to take a coronavirus vaccine as long as President Donald Trump isn’t the one telling her to. The Democratic challenger to Vice President Mike Pence was asked during their debate on Wednesday, October 8, night whether she’d get a Covid-19 shot if the Trump administration approves one.

"If the public health professionals, if Dr (Anthony) Fauci, if the doctors tell us that we should take it, then I’ll be first in line to take it. But if Donald Trump tells us that we should take it — then I’m not taking it."

The dig was launched by Harris during the early portion of the debate, which focused on Covid-19 pandemic. As soon as the statement was made by Harris, people started retweeting the video clip of the debate. Journalist Anderson Cooper retweeted it and said, "Kamala Harris says if there is a coronavirus vaccine that is embraced by scientific advisers, she will 'be the first in line to take it. ... But if Donald Trump tells us that we should take it, I'm not taking it."

On the other hand, Kayleigh McEnany supported Trump and wrote, "Unbelievable. Kamala has faith in a vaccine, but not with Trump. She knows, under any administration, FDA develops a vaccine & Trump has led in achieving good testing, therapeutics & soon a vaccine, but she SHAMEFULLY instills doubt when American lives could be saved #VPDebate."

While another Internet user slammed Trump's supporters and wrote, "Let’s face it NO ONE will take a Trump vaccine. His base doesn’t believe in the virus so they don’t need it and everyone else cannot trust ANYTHING that has Trump’s hand in it. #PenceHarrisDebate #TrumpVirus #vaccines." Another user slammed Trump and wrote, "Kamala Harris won’t take a vaccine Trump recommends — unless Dr. Fauci also recommends it. I won't either. @realDonaldTrump does nothing but LIE."

Many agreed with Kamala's statement and wrote, "I agree with @KamalaHarris. @realDonaldTrump advocated taking hydroxychloroquine, advocated not wearing masks or social distancing, suggested injecting disinfectant and is trying to fast track vaccine without FDA approval. I will not take a vaccine pushed by Trump alone." And some slammed her and said, "Straight up. WHY WOULD TRUMP RELEASE A VACCINE IS NOT APPROVED BY DOCTORS. Kamala Harris’s attitude towards it is so grotesque and manipulative."
