Mike Pence's daughter Charlotte encourages nervous voters with spiritual message: 'God has a plan for us'
Author Charlotte Pence Bond, the daughter of Vice President Mike Pence and second lady Karen Pence, delivered a message on Tuesday, November 3, in an attempt to encourage voters. On her podcast ‘Doubting It With Charlotte Pence Bond’, she shared a story about her father and how during a family vacation, Pence was inspired to go on his path to the office.
“We went to this dude ranch and we were on a hike,” Charlotte said, noting that her dad was deciding at the time whether he should make yet another run for Congress after two previously unsuccessful bids. At the time, she said that Vice President Pence had a successful career in broadcast media and law. But he supposedly found himself thinking about entering public service.
“My mom and my dad are standing on this cliff... and they look out over the cliff and they see these two hawks and they’re flying,” Charlotte said. “But they’re not flapping their wings, they’re just kind of gliding together, and the wind is just kind of carrying them along.” “My mom says to my dad, ‘If we’re going to run again, we’re going to run as those two hawks — no flapping,” she added. “We’re going to let God carry us up to a position or not. We’re going to glide… we’re not going to try to get there on our own.” Charlotte said her mother felt that the family should let God “carry them” if they planned to embark on another political run.
Pence, after that, went on to get elected to Congress. He later became the governor of Indiana in 2012. And just four years later, he became the vice president of the United States. Charlotte said that she felt it was often powerful to see the “ways that God is faithful and he does have a plan.” She added, in a message to voters, “I want to encourage you: if you’re nervous today — on Election Day — just remember that God has a plan for us. Regardless of the results of elections, we respect the person who God has placed in authority. Be ready for whatever God is calling you to do,” she said.
Her podcast explores the issues of faith, culture, and “doubt”. Through interviews with spiritual and religious guests, Charlotte's show tries to traverse what she feels are “essential questions about our faith journeys”. Her attempt to rouse voters was very different from her father’s who on Monday, November 2, cited job creation and support for law enforcement and the military among strengths of the current White House administration in a last-minute plea to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, voters. Pence said, “In three short years, we rebuilt our military, we revived our economy, we secured our borders, supported law enforcement and stood for life and liberty and the Constitution of the United States.”
“The choice in this election has never been clearer, the stakes have never been higher,” Pence said. “It’s going to be a choice between a Trump boom and a Biden depression.”
