'Top Gun' star Val Kilmer hasn't had a girlfriend in 20 years, says he 'feels lonely every day'
In his new memoir ‘I'm Your Huckleberry: A Memoir’, the 60-year-old also said that he always found women 'infinitely more interesting than men'
Val Kilmer, who has dated some of the most famous women in the world, has revealed that he has been single since 2000 and experiences loneliness every day.
In his new memoir ‘I'm Your Huckleberry: A Memoir’, the 60-year-old has opened up about the current status of his love life. “I haven’t had a girlfriend in 20 years. The truth is I am lonely part of every day,” Kilmer has written in his memoir.
The ‘Top Gun’ actor then added: “I’ve always found women infinitely more interesting than men,” Kilmer writes. “Perhaps that’s why we’ve always gotten along. We are big oafy elephants… and they are butterflies.”
Kilmer has famously been linked with Daryl Hannah, Cindy Crawford, Angelina Jolie, and Cher. He also tied the knot with actress Joanne Whalley in 1988, however, the pair divorced in 1996 after having two children together, daughter Mercedes, 28, and son Jack, 24.
In his new memoir, the Grammy nominee also opened for the very first time about his battle with throat cancer in 2015 and has shared some kind words for ex-flame Cher. “Once Cher works her way inside your head and heart, she never leaves. For her true friends, her steadfast love and loyalty never die,” he wrote.
‘The Man Who Broke 1,000 Chains 1987’ star said how he awoke one night only to find himself vomiting blood that covered his bed. “I prayed immediately, then called 911. Then alerted my hostess. Cher stepped in and stepped up.
“And yet even in my grave condition, I saw her scanning the paramedic, who was Gregory Peck drop-dead handsome,” Kilmer said, revealing how the music icon managed to make him laugh. “Despite the fact that I was covered in blood, I caught her eye and bounced my brows like Groucho Marx. Hubba hubba. Cher was bashful to be busted but then couldn’t help laughing out loud at the audacity.”
“Here we were, joking about beauty and desire, while I looked like a stuntman from Tarantino’s ‘Reservoir Dogs’ and, yes, while my life seemed to be in mortal danger. We laughed out loud before they finished with my vitals and shut me up with an oxygen mask,” Kilmer added.
Today, the ‘Top Secret!’ star is cancer-free after undergoing a tracheotomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. “I have been healed of cancer for over four years now, and there has never been any reoccurrence. I am so grateful,” he said.
Along with recalling his days struggling with cancer, Kilmer has also mentioned about the breakup from Daryl Hannah, which was by far the most difficult for him. Lord knows I’ve suffered heartache. But Daryl was by far the most painful of all. (Neil Young, I always loved you, but I’m afraid I hate you now.),” he wrote.
Kilmer’s new 320-page memoir will be published by Simon & Schuster on April 21. He is also autographing copies of the book for those who pre-order it early.
