SOUTH SALT LAKE, UTAH: An amber alert was issued in Utah on Wednesday, September 25, after a 3-month-old girl was reportedly abducted by her biological parents.

The missing infant girl has been identified as Khaliyah Alvarez Caro, who is 24 inches tall and weighs 20 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. The baby was last seen wearing a mickey mouse t-shirt and diaper.

The amber alert was issued shortly after 10 p.m. The exact circumstances of the alleged abduction is not known except the fact that it took place in South Salt Lake.

The police believe that the missing infant's biological parents, Gabriel Brandon Caro, 19, and Jasmine Angelica Alvarez, 21, who do not have legal custody of the child have kidnapped Khaliyah.

The first suspect, Gabriel, was described as being five feet 10 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. He has brown hair and was last seen wearing a grey t-shirt. The child's mother was described as five feet three inches tall and weighing 182 pounds. She has brown hair and a nonspecific tattoo on her finger. She was last seen wearing dark grey Utah Utes football team shirt, light denim jeans, and black Nike shoes.

The picture of the victim, as well as both the suspects, have been released by the authorities who have asked for public assistance in finding the abductors.

The suspected pair was last spotted driving a gray Toyota four-door vehicle or a Chevy Malibu. The number plate is not known.

South Salt Lake Police spokesman Gary Keller told Gephardt Daily that baby’s grandparents had custody of the missing child because of her parents’ drug use, history of domestic violence and homelessness. Earlier in the day that the amber alert was issued, the suspects were seen to be behaving erratically and presumed to be under the influence of drugs. The couple went into the grandparent’s apartment through a basement window and “grabbed” the infant, Keller said.

Two other individuals were in the car with the couple when they left, he said. Keller said this is a “hectic investigation” and police don’t know where the group was heading. He noted that the couple is considered unfit to care for the child and is also homeless.

Anyone with any information is requested to call the South Salt Lake police at 801-840-4000 or simply dial 911.
