While Tyra Boisseau was at college getting a graduation degree, her boyfriend Alex Wilson was looking after their daughter Layla. While several viewers of the show have previously appreciated the fact that they were breaking gender norms, others have deemed Tyra as being selfish and not caring about Alex’s dreams.

As if the struggle of two teenagers trying to work a long-distance relationship and raise a baby wasn’t enough, fate tested them time and again with ridiculous situations. Like the time when Alex’s mom, who had a history of drug abuse and had abandoned Alex when he was a baby, returned to stay with him and his grandmother and also wanted to bring her boyfriend onboard.

Tyra has also never received any emotional support from her sister Tierra, who was also a teen mother raising a daughter. Tierra has quit her studies and has decided to focus entirely on her child and she believes Tyra should have done the same. Tierra is also not hesitant to call her sister a “bitch” on camera. A viewer wrote, “I think her sister is being a hater honestly. If that were my sister I would be happy to help and supportive I may be wrong but that's what it seems like to me.”

The couple has so far been able to get over all the hurdles and are doing a good job with their daughter Layla. They are probably the most stable couple on the show with minimum help from their parents. However, the long-distance between them puts a strain on their relationship. When she got an opportunity to go to Miami from college for cheerleading, Tyra was excited and was looking forward to it. She confided in her friend that she wished she could just pick her daughter Layla up and run around on the Miami beach. When her friend asked if she also wanted to take Alex along, Tyra said, “sometimes I just need a break from Alex".

Alex confessed he was a tiny bit insecure about Tyra going to Miami for the college event. He said he knew how college parties can get wild and there is always a tiny part in him that's worried that Tyra might be hanging out with another boy.

While a lot of viewers have given a thumbs up to Tyra for finishing her college, many think cheerleading is something she could give up. “Going to college is a great thing, but also doing cheer is something she could give up,” wrote a viewer.

A quick reminder, if Tyra is able to get her college degree, she would be the first one in her family to do so and viewers feel a scholarship is something she shouldn’t give up, “She’s doing the right thing by going to college. A scholarship is a good thing and it will help her daughter have a better life than she had or that sister who’s a petty B will have.”
