UK schoolchildren to be taught about gay and trans relationships, female genital mutilation in compulsory sex education program
Primary school children in the UK — from the age of five — are set to be taught about gay and trans relationships, according to reports. Under the new guidelines announced by the government, parents will also not have the right to opt their children out of the sex education program in secondary school.
The Sunday Times reported that the staff of primary schools across the country are set to bring in the new classes when they are rolled out next year nationally.
The students, in the new classes, will also be taught how to stay safe online and how to develop "healthy, respectful relationships". They will be taught to learn the connection between physical and mental health, with lessons particularly focused on the importance of getting enough sleep, the dangers of sexting, and spotting anxiety in friends.
