Tyler Perry's 'Madea Farewell Play': Meet Perry, Cassi Davis, David Mann and the cast from the show's 'final stage run'
Tyler Perry's Madea is returning to the screen one last time, with the filmed version of the character’s final stage tour premiering on BET+. Titled Tyler Perry’s 'Madea’s Farewell Play', the network is touting this release as the “final stage run” for Madea. A press release said Perry, as Madea, “pulls together some of his audience’s favorite characters for a family gathering” in a performance panning over two hours. The executive producer, director and writer, in addition to his starring role is also reportedly involving current affairs and the pandemic into the live show that was filmed in May and will perhaps present to us the new dynamics of cinema post this crisis. Here are all the faces, including Perry's to be expected in the film.
Tyler Perry
The American actor, writer, producer, comedian, and director was crowned 2011's highest-paid man in entertainment, by Forbes. Perry stars as the titular character Madea, aka Mabel "Madea" Earlene Simmons, a tough, elderly African-American woman that Perry based on his mother and his aunt.
Cassi Davis
Madea's story isn't Cassi's only collaboration with Perry. The American actress and singer is best known for her role as Ella Payne on Perry's 'House of Payne' and its spin-off series 'The Paynes'.
David Mann
The American stage actor, gospel singer and stand up-comedian has starred in several plays by Perry, including 'I Can Do Bad All By Myself', 'Madea's Family Reunion', 'Madea's Class Reunion', 'Meet the Browns', and 'What's Done in the Dark'.
Tamela Mann
The Grammy-nominated singer, also another favorite collaborator of Perry's, she began her career as a singer with the gospel group Kirk Franklin and the Family. She was a featured soloist on several tracks while with Franklin's group, alongside Mary J Blige, Crystal Lewis, R. Kelly, and Bono. Mann's debut album came in 2005 and the lead single 'Take Me to the King' aced both commercially, as well as received Grammy Award for Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance nomination.
Kwaylon Rogers
Known widely as Blameitonkway, Rogers already had a hugely successful social media presence with his acclaimed character 'Titi'. Perry's Madea tour was the first time the actor/comedian had taken this character on the road in a stage show.
