'House Of Payne' Season 9 Episode 7 Review: Will Miranda's desperation to get Calvin back pay off?

Miranda tries her best to stage a run-in with Calvin and goes around to CJ and Janine's house but Calvin leaves the house promptly

Buckle up, because the Calvin-Miranda drama isn't about to end anytime soon. In Episode 7 of 'Tyler Perry's House Of Payne', Miranda goes over to Ella's (Cassi Davis) house for some advice. Ella gives her the best advice she can: Pray to God. But Miranda isn't done yet.

She is desperate for a glance at Calvin and goes around to CJ and Janine's house, making awkward conversation with Malik (Doc Shaw) and Jazmine (China Anne McClaine), who both figure out why exactly she is here. The ruse doesn't last for long and Malik throws some expert shade at her. Is Malik becoming a younger Uncle Curtis? It certainly seems like that and god knows, one of them is enough.

Also, it's important to note that the show has suddenly forgotten about Malik's pregnant stripper girlfriend Lisa and become invested in the Calvin-Miranda drama lately. Honestly, why is Malik getting to be a snarkfest? Considering that there are several references to his failed marriage (which we had forgotten about), he better go stand in a corner before butting into someone else's married life.

Nevertheless, the much-hoped for encounter between Miranda and Calvin happens and he leaves the house promptly. He storms off to Curtis's house and a conversation between the two of them drags on painfully. The end result is that Calvin wants to see his mother Ella for advice and has to tolerate a lot of Curtis's jokes like the rest of us. He's furious when he finds out that she's been meeting Miranda and considers that an absolute betrayal. Curtis doesn't really care for much emotional complexity because he seems to be there just to make some disrespectful jokes about everyone, anyway. The laugh track is rather unnerving at points — we don't need one everytime Curtis says something or even groans. This episode is a slight improvement on the previous ones, but just raises one question: Is there a low budget for the show, because everyone has been in the same outfits for the past few weeks.

The Calvin-Miranda drama is far from over, and it remains to be seen whether they get a divorce, or not.

'House Of Payne' airs on BET on Wednesdays at 8 pm.
