For a two-year-old, his birthday turned into a nightmare after two family dogs attacked him and left him in a pool of blood while parents were enjoying the party. The incident reportedly happened in the small town of Selydove, eastern Ukraine, on Friday, September 18 when the child, identified as Yegor, walked outside and two German shepherd guard dogs ripped him apart.

The tot was found in a pool of blood outside his house by his parents who were celebrating his second birthday while the animals mutilated him. Reports stated that the boy was around the courtyard at the time of the horrific incident when the canines broke out of their pen and attacked him. His parents began searching for him after noticing his absence. Charity volunteer Aleksandra Timoshchenkova, who helped the family in raising funds for Yegor's treatment said, “The boy was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood. The dogs were still tearing him apart.”

The dogs were able to escape from their enclosure since Yegor's dad reportedly did not close the pen's doors properly. During the gruesome attack, they tore apart the tot’s genitals and anus. They also severely damaged the femoral artery on his left leg, stated local media as reported by The Daily Mail. Soon after the incident, Yegor was rushed to Dnipro Regional Children's Hospital by a military helicopter for special treatment. At the hospital, the child was attended by four crews of surgeons, who took around five hours to restore his damaged blood vessels, bladder, and intestines. Yegor’s tissues “that had been chewed by the dogs” were also taken out by the medics, who are now working towards saving his left leg.

Natalia Dementyeva, the head of the hospital, said, “the boy suffered extremely severe injuries known as dirty wounds. He is receiving powerful antibacterial therapy but we are expecting the development of inflammatory processes that are usual complications in such cases.” Meanwhile, a police investigation has been launched into the case. It has been said that Yegor’s condition is because of his parents who failed to perform parental duties. “The boy's parents are being interrogated. Forensic examinations are underway,” police spokeswoman Aleksandra Gavrilko said. If convicted, the parents of the child could face up to three years in jail.

In another incident in South Yorkshire, a 35-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were arrested after their newborn was fatally attacked by a dog. The pair was arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. The incident reportedly took place on September 13 when the animal jumped out of its garden pen and attacked the 12-day-old Elon at a house in Welfare Road, Doncaster.

The tot was soon taken to a local hospital, but due to the severity of the wounds, he died. The suspects, Abigail Ellis and her fiancé Stephen Joynes, were given bail as the investigation continues. A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said, “Police were called to an address on Welfare Road following reports that a dog had attacked a child. On arrival at the property, emergency services discovered a 12-day-old baby boy had been bitten by a dog and suffered serious injuries. The child was taken to hospital, but sadly died a short time later.”
