Tennessee toddler could lose both her feet after grandma scalded them with boiling water giving her 'sock burns'
A two-year-old girl whose grandmother allegedly scalded her feet so badly they looked like she was wearing red socks could lose both her feet.
Kaylee Robinson's gran put her feet in boiling hot water, causing severe red burns and huge yellow blisters going from her ankles to her toes, The Sun reports.
The toddler's mother said the burns on both feet are identical, and doctors and a sheriff believe the "sock burns" could only have been inflicted deliberately.
The incident, which took place on August 11, led to Kaylee's gran, Jennifer Vaughn, being charged with injuring the toddler at her Chattanooga, Tennessee residence.
According to authorities, Vaughn confessed she burnt Kaylee as a punishment for misbehaving.
Jennifer is the mother of Kyle, whose fiancee Brittany Smith is Kaylee's mother.
"It’s terrible, it’s just so stressful. Kaylee has had two operations so far, but they haven’t worked," the horrified mother told Metro US. "The skin is not really repairing itself in the way the doctors hoped it would. Kaylee is in a lot of pain. They are going to take some skin from her thigh next week to try and repair her feet. She is at high risk of infection and could end up losing them."
Brittany told the outlet she had gone swimming with her fiance and two other children when she left her daughter with Vaughn as the water could have been too deep for little Kaylee. But the unsuspecting mother received a call from Vaughn even before the family reached their destination, telling her to come back home as she heard her daughter's painful cries in the background.
When Brittany reached the residence, Vaughn first told her she had put Kaylee in the bath while the tap was running and that she accidentally got burnt when she left the room.
Kaylee was immediately rushed to hospital, where she's still being treated for her burns.
According to Brittany, her daughter cannot walk for the "foreseeable future."
While Vaughn is currently being held on a charge of aggravated child abuse in lieu of £123,000 ($150,000) bond, Kaylee's heartbroken mother said no punishment would compensate for Vaughn's alleged abuse.
"I would like someone to burn her feet just the same," she said.
