California Gov Gavin Newsom's ad targets Florida Gov Ron DeSantis' move of signing a bill to ban abortions after six weeks of pregnancy

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: California Governor Gavin Newsom drove the Internet into a frenzy as he released a new ad taking a dig at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ six-week abortion ban ahead of their anticipated clash on Fox News.

The ad, released by Newsom and the Campaign for Democracy PAC on Sunday, November 19, was scheduled to run in Florida and Washington, DC, during NFL Sunday Night Football, as well as on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show, leading up to debate on November 30, as per LA Times.

"Wanted. By order of Gov Ron DeSantis, any woman who has an abortion after six weeks and any doctor who gives her care will be guilty of a felony," said the narrator, Newsom himself, in the ad, raging against the criminalization of women who seek abortions and the physicians who perform such procedures in Florida.

"Abortion after six weeks will be punishable by up to five years in prison. Even though many women don’t even know they’re pregnant at six weeks. That’s not freedom. That’s Ron DeSantis’s Florida," concluded the narrator, as per Politico.

The commercial included a false "wanted" poster with photographs of a doctor and a purported patient, along with the statement, "Woman guilty of abortion. The doctor was found guilty of facilitating abortion."

Ron DeSantis’s campaign responded to the Gavin Newsom's ad

In a post on the DeSantis War Room account on Sunday, November 19, Ron DeSantis' campaign addressed the ad, calling it "sheer desperation" from Gavin Newsom.

"f this ad is any indication Newsom will spend the debate lying about @RonDeSantis’ record to deflect from his failures," said the post. 

It continued, "Speaking of freedom: If you can’t walk down the street without fear of being accosted, or stepping on a used needle or human feces, you aren’t very ‘free.’ For this reason and much more, people are fleeing California at a rate never before seen in history. And they are moving to the free state of Florida." 

In April, DeSantis signed Florida's six-week abortion ban into law, upending his state's reputation as an abortion haven in the South as he attempted to strengthen his conservative credentials in the presidential primaries.

The new law prohibited abortions in the state after six weeks of pregnancy, with exceptions for mothers whose lives are in danger and for abortions up to 15 weeks for pregnancies caused by rape, incest, or human trafficking.

DeSantis' ban also makes it a third-degree felony for physicians or anyone else who "actively participate(s) in" an abortion in violation of the prohibition, and it forbids state money from being used to assist a woman in obtaining an abortion in another state, as per The Hill.

Gavin Newsom’s advertisement about Ron DeSantis' six-week abortion ban in Florida has garnered immense social media attention, with users sharing their perspectives on the politicians.

"Two men struggling for relevancy and hoping to become the next POTUS," said one, while another wrote, "Why are they even debating 🙄 America doesn’t need 2 governors debating America needs 2 governors fixing problems in America." 

Someone stated, "At the rate, people are leaving California and flocking to places like Florida, this debate is already over." 

A person observed, "Grusom ruined CA and is proud of it!! He is a total loser!!"

"I can't stand Newsom but he'll likely mop the floor with RDS. This will be the final nail in a horrifically run campaign," added one.
