Trump whines Iowa floods got more news coverage than his Nobel Prize nomination, Internet calls him 'selfish'

After POTUS bragged about his Nobel Prize nomination, the Internet felt he was being 'narcissistic' in his approach to the tragedy that had hit Iowa amid the pandemic

President Donald Trump returned to Iowa with early voting already underway and with opinion polls suggesting that this time the contest could be much more closer than it was in 2016. In fact, Trump also made sure the rally attendees were informed that he was leading as he cited a poll released Wednesday, October 14, by Focus on Rural America that showed him leading Biden by 6 percentage points, 50% to 44%. “For me to only be up six, I'm a little bit concerned, I'll tell you that,” he said. “Because nobody's going to do for Iowa what I did for Iowa.”

“When you had floods all over the place, you were like a large-scale swimming pool. I hate to say it Iowa, I looked at the pictures your governor sent. I said, ‘Kim, I never knew that this was oceanfront property.’ And we took care of you, right? We gave you everything you needed and we got rid of all of the — we’ve rebuilt the dams and the dikes,” he said recounting what his administration had done for the flood-ravaged citizens. However, apart from addressing the polls, he also made a complaint against the mainstream media. He thrashed the media for giving more coverage to Iowa floods and not his Nobel Prize nomination, something which is quite reminiscent of the Ohio rally in September this year where he felt the news of a hurricane had upstaged him. He had complained to his wife, Melania, about not having enough media coverage about his Nobel Peace Prize nomination for the part he played in brokering a historic peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

Now, a month later, Trump told Iowa, “I get nominated for three Nobel Peace Prizes on three different subjects. And I told the story the other night when I was in Florida, I told our First Lady ‘darling we’re going to have the greatest publicity I’ve ever had tonight.” He said that when he reached home what he saw on television was nothing related to the award and most networks were focused on covering the Iowa Floods. “I turn on the television, they talked about your floods in Iowa. They talked about how Iowa is doing the crops.” He further added that there were, “3-4 stories one after another” that came but they did not mention his nomination. He then asked, “Where is my Nobel Peace Prize that they don’t talk about?” A user tweeted the video of Trump at the Iowa rally saying: "Watch the President's reaction while he complains about the news covering the flood in Iowa."

Trump then lashed out at former president Barack Obama, “When Obama got his Nobel Prize, it was so early. He did not even do anything. He still does not know what he got it for.” He added, “But I have got three nominations and nobody talks about.” The Norwegian Nobel Committee bestowed the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 to Obama for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”

Trump has been nominated for the coveted award for the third time in 2020. Trump was first nominated for the prize by a Norwegian Parliament member for his role in the United Arab Emirates-Israel peace deal. Days later, a Swedish Parliament member nominated Trump again after he enabled a deal for normalizing economic relations between Serbia and Kosovo. In September, he was nominated for the third time where a group of Australian law professors praised the president's role in brokering a peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Fox Reported.

In his ending remarks at the Iowa rally, Trump tried to motivate his core supporters to go out to the polls. "Get your friends, get your family, get your neighbors, get your workers and coworkers and get the hell out to vote because if I don't get Iowa I won't believe that one," POTUS told his audience.

After Trump bragged about his Nobel Prize nominations, the reactions on the Internet came in fast and strong. Most on social media were of the opinion that he was being “selfish” and undermined disasters that battered lives. A user wrote slamming Trump, “Trump tells Iowa MAGA crowd how angry he was to see the Iowa news talk about Iowa floods and problems with Iowa crops instead of his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize (*anyone can be nominated). Even the MAGA audience is confused.” Another user bashed Trump, “Iowa! Trump complains that the floods that devastated you is hogging all the news so no one talks about his Nobel prize fantasy. We grew up with a word for that: selfish”

Another user concurred, “Trump dismisses the Iowa floods and chastises them for not talking about his "three" (bogus) Nobel Prize nominations. The silence from the audience is deafening.” Another social media user went on to slam the people of Iowa for attending the rally in the first place, “How selfish can these people in Iowa be? They see their homes, their farms, their communities destroyed by flood, and they forgot to rejoice about trump’s Nobel prize nomination.” Another user brought in his Democratic rival Biden, “Trump, in Iowa, is complaining the press covered the floods in Iowa too much instead of him not getting the Nobel Prize. Trump just flipped Iowa to Joe Biden.”

A user reflected on the crowd of MAGA supporters, “MAGA Deplorables confused for a second by their narcissistic ‘TrumpVirus’. Trump tells Iowa “F U and your floods & crops, it’s all about me.” A user wrote, “Watching this makes me sick. How can you live in Iowa and vote for him especially after that whine baby bs. Sorry trump but our disasters are far more important than your fake Nobel Prize nomination. That was absolutely appalling.” A user wrote against Trump, "He literally swats away mention of the destruction of millions of $$ of Iowa farmland like it's NBD, simply bc it took the focus off of him. I didn't have power for 5 days. Others didn't have power for over a week. Iowa is still recovering. Trump is the epitome of selfish."
