Trump's North Carolina rally plays ‘Titanic’ song, Internet says 'perfect metaphor for incompetent presidency'
President Donald Trump has been vigorously campaigning ahead of the November 3 presidential elections. Despite the coronavirus-induced restrictions and unfavorable weather conditions, MAGA supporters are gathering in large numbers across the cities to hear the POTUS deliver his speeches. While he's all set to make an appearance at North Carolina, Trump's administration decided to blare the song from 'Titanic' in the background while waiting for the president to address the crowd.
The moment was captured on camera while CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins spoke from the North Carolina rally location. While she discussed the politics of home stretch with the news anchor, the lyrics of the song "heart will go on and on" can be distinctly heard in the background. The news anchor even pointed out that it's a rather "weird moment" to have a romantic song blaring at an event so crucial.
For a long time, political analysts have drawn comparisons between Trump's 2020 re-election and the "unsinkable" Titanic. However, with all the recent factors that have made his re-election questionable people have started to compare his administration with the quintet that continued to play the music when the Titanic sank after hitting the iceberg. Even before the president could arrive at the rally, people took to Twitter to widely discuss his campaign's choice of music for the event, especially after polls have indicated Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden's lead over Trump in four key states. More and more people noted that Trump's presidency is more of a sinking ship at the moment and playing the song from 'Titanic' only made sense.
One tweeted, "The symbolism of The Titanic theme song playing at Trump's rally tonight is priceless #Trump #TrumpLied200KDied #Election2020" while another added, "‘Everybody Hurts’ by REM blares @ Trump’s GA rally just now while at an earlier rally they played the ‘Theme to Titanic’ - perfect metaphor for his incompetent presidency. #VoteHimOut2020" and one wrote, "They are playing the theme song from “Titanic” at Trump’s rally in North Carolina right now! The CNN anchor is like WTF??!! That’s a sinking ship!"

Jokes continued to flow as a significant number of Twitter users were seen wondering if Trump's campaign chose the song deliberately or if it was played by someone who is his "resister". One wrote, "Theme from Titanic playing at a Trump rally. This is one of those things (like Trump's makeup) that makes me wonder if the person responsible for music is not-so-secretly a resister." Another noted, "The Trump rally begins their event playing the theme song from Titanic. Who thought that was a smart move?" And one tweeted, "Not sure if you want to hear this though it may make you stop watching it but apparently trump had the theme playing at his rally in NC today. Moronic choice considering what happened to the Titanic but consider the source I guess."
