Donald Trump for 2024! Did president just hint that he may run for a third term?
President Trump just can't seem to stop trolling his critics as he once again hinted at an impossible and unconstitutional third presidential term during his North Carolina rally on Monday night.
The commander-in-chief tweeted a photo of a campaign sign Tuesday night that reads "Trump 2024" alongside his new campaign slogan "Keep America Great!", Daily Mail reported.
For those who have been following his re-election campaign, it was clear he was taunting his naysayers over what he said as a joke during the rally, that he "may have to go for an extra term."
Trump appears to take pleasure in entertaining the idea of staying president "4EVA" although he is constitutionally limited to only two terms in office. "I announced today that we've got the soccer world cup. That's a big thing. Who else is going to do it? We've got a problem. It's in 2026," Trump said at Monday's rally.
"I said, well, wait a minute. Under the normal rules, I'll be out in 2024. So we may have to go for an extra term," he quipped to a spirited crowd, before taunting mainstream media outlets that the next day headlines would say "he wants an extra term."
"Tomorrow, you're going to see headlines, 'Trump wants another term,'" he said.
However, the former real estate mogul clarified he was only joking. "No. No. I'm only kidding," he said. "But we actually have the World Cup. It's the biggest sporting event in the world, and we got it. It's great work."
Last Saturday, the US leader tweeted a cleverly-edited video of a cat sitting on a CNN logo while chasing a laser pointer "held" by Trump, and the controversial Hurricane Dorian map in the backdrop.
While Trump did not explain why he posted the meme, the internet was quick to realize the video illustrated how the media were easily diverted by whatever he said or did.
The 45th president has a long history of trolling his critics. He sparked outrage among liberals back in June after tweeting a parody meme suggesting he could be president forever, or '4EVA'.
The video was made by one of his ardent supporters, Carpe Donktum, just days after he officially launched his 2020 re-election campaign.
The meme shows Trump standing somberly while campaign signs run from 2024, 2032, racing up to thousands of years from now and ultimately stopping at 'TRUMP 4EVA'.
