The final month of Donald Trump in the White House saw America’s politics touching its lowest point, thanks to rioting at the Capitol Hill by the former president’s supporters who resented the victory of Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. Five people lost their lives in the violence that broke out at the seat of the Congress on January 6 and the lawmakers who were present inside the Capitol to affirm the victory of Biden panicked. The incident saw a serious political repercussion as Trump was impeached by the House on charges of inciting an insurrection, the second time in 13 months.

The conservative and liberal camps slammed each other over the ugly attacks that reportedly involved former and acting members of the military and law enforcement, making the civilian leadership even more anxious. The Republican Party has found itself deeply divided over the question of impeaching Trump in the Senate with top leaders like Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham differing.

But conservative websites unearthed instances from the day of the violence to claim that violence “is not a trademark of conservative protests” and said the protesters at the Capitol were different from their counterparts taking part in he Black Lives Matter or Antifa demonstrations that rocked the US last year by exhibiting “respect” for the police and the law and order.

BizPac Review (BPR) came up with a video shared on Twitter that showed a man wearing a MAGA hat confronted a number of armed lawkeepers and asking them: “Why are you letting this happen? Why haven’t you called for backup? Where is your back up?”

“This is our damn Capitol Building!” the supporter of Trump said. “And you all are letting it get destroyed on your watch. Call for backup. Get some help down here!”

The US Capitol Police force was found unprepared by the mob while defending the citadel of American democracy. The rioters breached the defense set up by the under-staffed police force and stormed the building which forced the evacuation of former vice president Mike Pence and other lawmakers. Acting chief of US Capitol Police Yogananda Pittman later apologized for the department’s security lapses that resulted in the death of one officer -- Brain Sicknick -- who was hit on his head by a fire extinguisher.

The BPR report then slammed the Democratic Party and the media, saying they exploited the events politically and that the real character of the conservative protest was not shown. “You can understand how a Trump supporter literally begging police officers to stop the mayhem might run counter to the media narrative,” the report said. It also challenged media reports saying that the protesters overran the Capitol Police and occupied the building saying it was not true as the video in question showed the officers in uniform looking passively.

A video also did the rounds showing uniformed Capitol Police officers opening the doors for the protesters and standing by the side idly. Besides, the Associated Press reported that days before the riot, both the Pentagon and Justice Department sought to send reinforcements to help the Capitol Police but the efforts were declined.
