Trump wants Congress to investigate Obama family's lucrative Netflix and book deals
President Donald Trump, in a tweet on Monday, suggested that the House Judiciary Committee should focus on former President Barack Obama's "book deal or the ridiculous Netflix deal" instead of directing their attention on his own business operations.
The Republican tweeted: "House Judiciary has given up on the Mueller Report, sadly for them after two years and $40,000,000 spent – ZERO COLLUSION, ZERO OBSTRUCTION. So they say, OK, lets look at everything else, and all of the deals that ‘Trump’ has done over his lifetime,” Trump tweeted. But it doesn’t…."
"But it doesn’t…work that way. I have a better idea. Look at the Obama Book Deal, or the ridiculous Netflix deal. Then look at all the deals made by the Dems in Congress, the ‘Congressional Slush Fund,’ and lastly the IG Reports. Take a look at them. Those investigations would be over FAST!” he added.
It is not yet clear what exactly the president wanted the Congress to investigate in Obama's forthcoming book or his new Netflix partnership. Although the president stated that the Congress has given up on the Mueller Report, reports state the House Judiciary Committee continues to probe Russian interference in the 2016 election. The panel, last week, had voted to seek former special counsel Robert Mueller's sensitive materials, including the evidence he had procured during his investigation as part of its inquiry.
The Obamas, last year, had announced a multiyear deal with Netflix to produce a diverse mix of content, which includes, scripted series, unscripted series, docu-series, documentaries and features, under their Higher Ground Productions banner. The company's first release, a documentary titled 'American Factory' about the struggles of the blue-collar workers, released last month on the streaming site.
The former president and First Lady Michelle Obama's representative did not immediately respond to a request for a response concerning Trump's tweets.
