Trump's cousin blasts the president as a selfish man who is nothing like his philanthropic parents: 'He even stole pancakes'

Donald Trump's coarse demeanor was a thorn in the side of his distant Scottish cousin Alice Mackay long before he was elected president. According to her, the US leader is nothing like his late parents Fred and Mary Anne MacLeod Trump.

"I don't like the man at all," Mackay said of Donald Trump. "He had lovely parents, I don't know what went wrong with him."

Trump's older sister, 82-year-old Maryanne Trump Barry, visited her native country with their mother every summer for years to keep in touch with their Scottish ancestry.

"She never forgot her roots and actually wanted to be buried here, but I think it was too much of an expense at the time and I don’t think her husband wanted it," Mackay said of Trump's mother.

However, she said her younger cousin almost never visited his mother's homeland before buying a golf course in Turnberry, Scotland, in 2014. Furthermore, she complained whenever he was in town, he wasn't very friendly and did not stay for long.

"Every time [the Trumps] were over here they came to ours for dinner," Mackay recently told The Independent. "He [Donald Trump] was here one morning I was busy making pancakes and he had forgotten my husband had died. He put a few pancakes in his pocket and never said 'cheerio' or anything."

According to Mackay, Trump's mother and sister often donated to hospices and charities like the Tong center, but "Donald didn't inherit his family's philanthropic spirit".

However, Trump has donated more than $102 million to charity from 2011 to 2016, according to a Washington Post investigation in 2016. Most of these donations came in the form of free rounds of golf at Trump's golf courses, which were eventually auctioned and raffled off to raise money for various causes.

"They were a lovely pair," Mackay said of Trump's parents. "They also asked Donald, but he wouldn't give a penny."
